BUGS.

Day 108 – It was fairly cold last night, down to the upper 40’s. This morning was clear & sunny. Rob went to the cliff and had his coffee while watching three Cormorants in the Harbor.

When returning from the cliff, he checked on the progress of the mushroom.

We drove into Lubec this morning to go to the hardware store so Rob could buy the supplies he needs to make our driveway barrier. We were surprised at the traffic we encountered on our way into town. Surprise, surprise, today was the annual Lubec Pirate’s Day Celebration, and we arrived as the parade was beginning. Next weekend, Eastport has their annual Pirate’s Day Celebration. The towns go all out, residents dress as pirates, it becomes one big block party, etc. Sort of an end-to-the-summer thing every year. Of course, we are totally out of it and we did not realize this was going on until we got to the ribbons which blocked off the main street and the route to the hardware store. The streets were lined with cars parked, and we had nowhere to go but turn around and drive back to the RV. Duh. We’ll have to come back to the hardware store on Tuesday when they reopen.

This afternoon, I finished up the project on researching the weather for the upcoming trip. Rob worked on the tree clean up. It’s no secret that I have a problem with bugs – biting/stinging bugs. Today was not a good bug day. Rob’s work on the trees on the land has brought out some bugs that we’ve never seen before nor would we want to – prehistoric bugs. This is a forest of old spruce trees. Evidently when one falls down and is then further disturbed when it’s cut into chunks, it brings out the long-time bug residents, and they are angry. This afternoon I went berserk trying to get rid of one that was breaking into the RV.

I did win the battle as it fought its way through the steel grid which protects the screen door from cat’s clawing. While Rob was in the shower, oblivious to it all, I bravely tackled the large flying bug with pinchers big enough that it could saw off your leg, with my trusty BugZooka (if you don’t have a BugZooka, go online & order one – they work great).

An exciting day, we had Newfoundland Partridgberry Drinks to celebrate my success. I saved us all! What on earth will tomorrow bring?!
