NEW YEAR’S EVE IN VIRGINIA.
Day 13 – What do they do in Cape Charles, VA for New Year’s Eve? The Crab Pot gets dropped. I don’t know if it gets televised all over the world, but it appears everyone shows up at the Park around 10 p.m. for the party. We don’t know yet if we’ll have our own little party in the RV or mosey on down to participate in their celebration.
It was windy last night, 46 degrees at 7 a.m. this morning, cloudy & dark, rain starting around 9:30. We’re waiting to see what the weather does before we decide if we’re going out today.
Well, as the day progressed the weather slowly got worse. The high was 52 degrees but by later in the afternoon the wind had increased & the rain was blowing sideways. We stayed inside & didn’t go anywhere. We popped open some bubbly and the crab pot dropped without us. During the evening more campers came in. We finally figured out why it was getting busier – the snow birds were headed south. I remembered from my days at the post office that most of the people that can leave during the winter, pack up & head for Florida right after the holidays. And that’s why it’s difficult to get a campsite in Florida beginning in January each year & you have to reserve a year in advance. Aha, lightbulb moment. Happy New Year’s Eve everyone!
