HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
Day 14 – A new year. What will this one bring! Got HOPE? How about Hope & Good Will for All. Anyway, back to business, 58 degrees this morning, windy & cloudy. Who let the dogs out? The trailer 3 sites down from us let all 3 dogs out to run free. Those dogs were thrilled with this prospect, but it sure caused an uproar amongst all the other dogs. Soon most dogs in the campground were running around. Wee Haw! The kitties were not happy about the ruckus.
It was rainy & windy in the morning but it got better in the afternoon. Most of the campers that came in yesterday left today. Back to just a few camping here. We were finally able to add a new sticker to our map of places where we’ve camped in the U.S. We’re filling up the map fairly quickly.

We’re thinking about leaving tomorrow. The weather isn’t going to change much in the next several days, so we might as well move along. We’ve been enjoying this leisurely pace, much different than when we went south for Trip #1. We didn’t stay long in one place & tried to fit too much in. We’ve learned that it’s more enjoyable to just play it by ear.
Cherrystone Family Camping Resort: 1511 Townfield Drive, Cape Charles, VA 23310, (757) 331-3063, e-mail welcome@cherrystone.com, website www.cherrystone.com. This large, independent campground was conveniently located a short distance north of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge & Tunnel, the long bridge that connects the eastern shore of Virginia to mainland Virginia near Norfolk. For us, it was even better because it was a comfortable distance from either Assateague & Chincoteague Islands or my stepmother’s home in Easton. Open all year, the campground is huge with more than 700 campsites on more than 300 acres. It is situated on the Chesapeake Bay; the sunsets were lovely every night we were there. Our campsite, #609 was right on the water by a pier with benches at the end. It was electricity & sewer available at the campsite & water available from a hose at the Welcome Center. The off-season rate was $19.85 per night. The place books up in advance in the summer & the rates are quite a bit higher then. Everything was very well maintained & the customer service was excellent. We will definitely camp here again off-season.
