It rained buckets & buckets all night long. When we got up at 7:30 a.m. the temperature had risen to 63 degrees! Walking to the car, we traipsed through big, muddy puddles. The rain continued and many front yards were flooded. The power was out in Easton, and as we drove to Gail’s house, traffic was backed up because the stop lights were out.
We’d brought lunch over to Gail’s house & we ate before leaving for our adventure of the day – a trip to the “Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad State Park & Visitor Center”, about 45 minutes south of Easton. The facility is about two years old & is still a work in progress. We found it to be beautifully presented and quite informative. Allow a couple of hours to tour, see a film & walk thru and read the information at all the displays. There is also an outdoor pavillion if you bring a lunch; we ate first due to the weather.

It really was very moving. We were amazed at how, back in the 1800’s, one woman could have done so much – amazed at how she was able to help so many people. I felt grateful for our freedom, something that is taken for granted quite often. Any of us could have been born into a completely different life. There by the grace of God……
Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad State Park & Visitor Center, 4068 Golden Hill Road, Church Creek, Maryland 21622, (410) 221-2290, dnr.maryland.gov/publiclands. The Visitor Center is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. except New Year’s Day, Thanksgiving, & Christmas Day. There is no entry fee. Arrival before 4 p.m. is recommended.
It was still raining when we left and headed back to Easton. We stopped at a favorite place in Easton, Ledo’s Pizza, and picked up a couple of pizzas for an early dinner. Thanks so much for a great visit, Gail!
We drove back to the RV, the rain was slowing down & bits of blue sky were visible as the sun set. Tomorrow we hope to drive down to Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge, another one of our favorite places in Maryland.
