Day 63 – We were up by 7 a.m., it was humid, cloudy, and 66 degrees. Thunderstorms may move in this afternoon. This Park is crowded & is one of the most popular Parks in the north woods section of Maine. Our campsite is located a little bit on a hill, so we look down on the surrounding sites, which is good because there are other campsites all around us. They are separated by some trees but are fairly close together. Since this is a non-reservable campsite, we can keep it up to two weeks. It will get us through the weekend onslaught. Then we head to the wild country of Baxter State Park.
Loons were calling off Moosehead Lake this morning. Now that we know we are staying, we set up the screened tent. So far the campers around us have been quiet. More people will come & go through the weekend, though. There are two loops at this State Park, Rowell Cove & Dunn Point. The water sites on Rowell Cove are on the water & it looks like it may be possible for kayaking to be done right from the campsites. Of course, these sites were booked well in advance. They are located across from us; we can see the Lake a little bit thru the trees. Dunn Point has nice water sites, also, but they’re higher up on a hill & access to the water from those sites would be difficult.

It rained lightly but not enough to keep us from going out to the screened tent after lunch. We read for awhile, then went for a drive to check out possible kayak launching sites. There were plenty, and these lakes, ponds, & rivers are incredibly pretty. Came back to the RV around 4:00 & took a walk to check out the water sites. There are a few that are both private & our kayaks could be launched from the campsite. Site #16 is the best, #17 is next to it and is great, and site #21 across from us would be third best. Next time we come here, we will definitely reserve one of these sites in advance & try our best to stick to that schedule.

We made a spaghetti sauce & had that with garlic bread for dinner. The high today was 74 degrees, light rain, very humid. The girls are settling in but seem to be wondering if we will be traveling again soon. I wonder why?
