CH-CH-CH-CHANGES. Part 3, Really?
Day 195 – THE COLD is not getting better. I feel awful today, have lost my voice & have a dry hacking cough. Woke up this morning to lousy weather, heavy rain and wind. A storm front was moving in and snow, sleet, and freezing rain were expected throughout today and tomorrow, beginning near us & becoming particularly bad southeast of us right over the Red River Gorge area of Kentucky, where we were travelling to today. Somewhere I’ve heard that “plans are made for changing” and evidently that’s true. We’ve changed our plans yet again and have decided to head south beyond the icy weather pattern to Bowling Green, KY. There was a Half Price Bookstore Outlet there after all.

Charlestown State Park, 12500 State Road 62, Charlestown, IN 47111, (812) 256-5600, www.dnr.in.gov. We stayed at this State Park last year in April when visiting Pam in Louisville KY. It is located in southern Indiana away from the big city & is a great place to stay when visiting Louisville. The differences between last year’s visit & this year’s trip are that we were here this year more than a month earlier & it was off-season. Prices were cheaper; water had not been turned on yet because of the possibility of freezing temperatures messing up the pipes; water at the dump station was not yet available; two loops, including the full hook-up campsites, were still closed; and very few people were camping there this time of year. We had site #33 this year. Otherwise, it was still the same great Park and details can be found in the link above. We will definitely stay here again.
I was moving a bit slowly in the packing-up department so we didn’t leave until 11:25 a.m. It was 34 degrees, raining with light snow & ice. We needed to get to a campground that had full hook-ups so we could dump tanks & continue filling the water tank. A new Jersey Mike’s had opened in a shopping center a couple of miles from us. It had been calling to us to come visit. We hadn’t found a Jersey Mike’s that was convenient since southern CA (thank you Mark T.!), so we stopped and got wonderful sandwiches for several lunches. Then we drove south on the 62 to the 265 southwest, getting on Interstate 65 south and crossing into Kentucky. It was now just rain coming down.
We stayed on the 65 south for most of the trip; it was cold and raining heavily. On the way we stopped for gas in the RV, propane for the RV, & lunch – YAAA, Jersey Mike’s. We got off of I-65 at Exit 53 in Cave City near Bowling Green, then heading west on Mammoth Cave Road (Highway 70) for 2 ½ miles. We arrived at Singing Hills RV Park & Campground at 2:35 p.m. It’s always hit or miss with a new campground; this one was a good choice. They assigned us a campsite on a long pull-through, site #37, all by itself at the top of a hill, overlooking a small fishing pond and the farmlands surrounding it. The Park was almost full. The Park accepted Passport America, and we paid half price with our discount, 2 nights at $20 each. The rain continued all day.
We unpacked and I went to bed, still feeling lousy. The high today was 41 degrees at the campground and it was windy with heavy rain. We’d moved back out of Eastern Standard Time to Central Standard Time, this time gaining an hour back. Neither of us felt like cooking so we had Jersey Mike’s sandwiches again, very glad that we’d bought extra.
