BACK TO WALLY’S BAGELS.

Day 67 – It rained last night and was windy. The high winds finally turned into a nice breeze around 10 a.m. The high today was 82 degrees, and it was humid. In the afternoon, we baked Italian bread for making Rob’s garlic/mozzarella bread. The long use of the oven made the RV uncomfortably warm. We turned on the air conditioning. YAAA to having electric hook-ups!

TRAVEL DAY: THREE MILE BAY, NY TO GRAND ISLE, VT.

Day 66 – Awake by 6:30 a.m. this morning, we had plenty of time to relax outside by the Lake with our morning beverages. This was a travel day and normally we have lots to do, but our goal was to leave around 10 a.m. and we wanted a little more time at this campsite by Lake Ontario. It was quiet and peaceful at first, just a few fishermen out & about, and we watched the fish leaping out of the water. But by 9 a.m. when we put up our chairs and went inside, it was bustling with activity. It was going to be very busy and loud today!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ERNIE! WE HOPE IT’S A WONDERFUL DAY!

Day 53 – Since we’re leaving tomorrow morning, we spent the morning running errands to prepare for the next leg of our journey to the 1,000 Islands region of upstate New York. We’ve never been there – new territory for us. After a quick visit with Cathie & Pete, we went to stand in line at Wally’s, our last chance to stock up on these fantastic bagels, and as usual, we got sandwiches for today’s lunch.

GOOD FRIENDS.

Day 50 – It rained some last night and was comfortably cool this morning. Rob went through the RV checking all the shelving to make sure they were all continuing to handle the loads of supplies we carry. All that alcohol is heavy, you know? Ho ho. He made a few more wooden supports, and except for the cupboard that holds beverage glasses, everything was fine. Those shelves will get tightened by screws when we get home.

MR. FIX-IT STRIKES AGAIN.

Day 49 – Cooler this morning; the humidity is gone. Very pleasant out. This morning Rob discovered the top shelf in a kitchen cabinet was on the verge of collapse. It could only take so long of holding very heavy supplies. Mr. Fix-It strikes again as we went off to the local hardware store, Robinson’s Hardware, and purchased some wood to make supports for the shelf. Meanwhile, he’d emptied the cupboard & everything packed in it was piled up on the dining room table. The cats were SO interested in this turn of events, asking if they could help as they climbed through the piles, threatening to knock things off. Sigh.

BAGELS, CLOUDS, AND PAPERWORK.

Day 48 – Heavy rain last night with more expected today. This morning we went back to Wally’s hoping to get bagels before they were sold out. We succeeded, we bought today’s lunch, and several bagels; we split one right away. It’d been years since we had a bagel & cream cheese. Heavenly! The holiday weekend is over. The campground had been fairly crowded, but now many campers are leaving.

The expected rain did not come, but it looked like it was going to pour any minute. It was humid and the high was 83 degrees. We stayed inside and caught up on some paperwork & research, and did a little cleaning. During the day several more campers arrived to replace some of them that left. Pixie slept through it all.

Pixie. So hot!!!

HOLIDAY CROWDS.

Day 47 – It was 60 degrees this morning, sunny & breezy. Looking like a beautiful day! We went kayaking on the Lamoille River from a boat launch we’d found when scouting the area. When we drove to the boat launch, we passed a very long line of cars waiting to get into Sand Bar State Park, which has a huge picnicking area, a nice beach, and it’s right on Lake Champlain. The boat launch was also crowded with cars & trucks lined up unloading fishing boats & kayaks. There were still several parking places left. We got there just in time.

NOTHING NEW HERE.

Day 45 – It was 62 degrees & cloudy this morning when we got up. The rain & wind stopped last night but is supposed to start up again this afternoon. That’s okay; at least it’s cool out. When you’re camping, even in an RV, it’s all about the weather. It plays such a large role in deciding what to do each day. Of course, the weather forecast is often wrong, but it IS helpful to at least have an idea of what’s coming. With steady rain supposedly coming this afternoon and into the evening, it looked like it would be a good day to cook. As of this morning, tomorrow and Monday look to be without rain & not too hot.

We made a big batch of Mole’ Chili. The seasonings used in this recipe give the Chili a really unique flavoring – oh, so good! It’s a vegetarian chili, but I’m sure meat of any kind could be added. If you’d like the recipe, let us know.

We didn’t go anywhere today. It rained during the late afternoon; supposedly more to come this evening. The Chili was excellent, the girls enjoyed us being here all day, and all is well. The high today was 64 degrees; very comfortable.
