Day 64 – When I woke up this morning around 7 a.m., there was no sign of Rob. Sure enough I saw him sitting by the water with the camera. I wondered what he was taking pictures of……..it was mushrooms.

Day 63 – It was a wonderful day weather-wise with the humidity and dewpoint reduced to combine with comfortable temperatures. This campground doesn’t allow campers to attach items to trees, so we have not tied up the thermometer. Going by the way it feels, a perfect day.

Day 62 – No rain last night, another warm, humid day so we’ll be going to Watertown to run some errands. A good excuse to go back to CoreLife Eatery! We’re just relaxing while it’s cooler, then when we want air conditioning, we’ll make that drive. (This is a good case for having hook-ups when camping during the summer months. It’s been a bit of a learning process since we’d gotten out of practice during the pandemic. And we’re hoping to do a really long trip after this one, beginning in the fall of this year.)

Day 61 – The campground has done a bit of emptying out after the weekend. It’s been fairly quiet. Rob headed outside by the water with his coffee & camera first thing this morning. He took a lot more great pictures. There are SO many birds here!
SEARCHING FOR A TENT.
Day 60 – It rained hard all night; 62 degrees this morning, not raining, and breezy. So far since we’ve been here, there’s been a consistently steady breeze coming off Lake Ontario. Rob sat outside right by the water and took over 100 pictures of two Killdeer. Now’s he’s busy narrowing down the shots to just a few.
TRAVEL DAY: REDWOOD, NY TO THREE MILE BAY, NY.
Day 59 – An update on the people that were using our land in Maine yesterday – a neighbor we contacted went down to our land to check, and the intruders had left. Who knows how long they’d been there, but as of yesterday afternoon, they weren’t there. Our neighbor was going to keep checking back. Possibly they saw our other neighbor who was foraging for mushrooms, causing them to leave. Rob also checked with the local electric company to see if someone had been using our electric hook-up, and they had not. What was particularly concerning was that our land is not just off a main road where someone might pull over for a lunch break. Our spot is located off a dirt road that says private road, about ½ mile in, and buried in the trees with a winding driveway downhill. One really would need to know that there wasn’t a house there and that bringing in an RV was possible. It is not just turn off of a main highway to an open area. Many thanks to our neighbors for their diligence on our behalf!
Onward, today is a travel day, a short one to the next campground. We are supposed to be out of this campsite by 11 a.m. this morning and cannot check into the next campsite until after 3 p.m. With only about an hour’s drive in between, we have a lot of time to kill. We’ll probably just find a scenic pull-out (that is NOT privately-owned land, ho ho) and relax for awhile to have lunch and kill time. At this point (10:30 a.m.), the girls do not know we’re leaving.

Day 58 – We were suddenly awakened in the middle of the night by incredibly close lightning and very loud thunder, followed by high wind and heavy rain coming in the windows sideways. After rushing to shut the RV windows, Rob was soaked with rain that was coming inside. Rob says it was like standing right in front of a fire hose. The girls were scrambling all over the RV, trying to find places to hide. It was dramatic! The storm went on awhile with the wind gusts shaking the RV. It was difficult to get back to sleep.

Day 57 – Today’s supposed to be warmer with the high dewpoint & humidity again. You can’t win them all! This morning Rob put up the screened tent to protect us from the sun; it will be needed today. The air was still with little breeze. The water of the St. Lawrence was like glass.

Day 56 – It was still raining when we got up this morning, muddy with puddles of rain on the ground. A comfortable 69 degrees with a wonderful breeze, we were all happy. It looked like a lot of campers slept in their cars, their tents totally soaked.

Day 55 – Dew point & humidity were quite high today. The combination of both being high made it pretty miserable. There was no breeze. The high was 85 degrees. We got about an hour of rain in the morning, and it didn’t seem to change a thing. None of us, cats included, felt like moving at all. Too much effort.
