UGH.
Day 55 – Dew point & humidity were quite high today. The combination of both being high made it pretty miserable. There was no breeze. The high was 85 degrees. We got about an hour of rain in the morning, and it didn’t seem to change a thing. None of us, cats included, felt like moving at all. Too much effort.
In the afternoon we took a short drive. Air conditioning was wonderful. We checked out a possible kayak-launching site we’d seen yesterday on the way to the campground. It was indeed excellent and when the weather improves, we’ll definitely do some kayaking from there. Go left you’re on a narrow, winding river with tall reeds & grasses on either side; go right and you soon are heading out into the St. Lawrence. We continued driving on small roads through farmlands, then headed back to the RV, first taking a drive through the resort city, Alexandria Bay. Lots of crowds going to little stores, restaurants, resort hotels, and boating.
Back at the RV it seemed hotter inside so we set up the chairs in the shade outside. Too hot & humid, sweating up a storm, I gave up & went inside with a fan on my face & my book for the rest of the afternoon. Rob took it for awhile, then came inside and did the same thing. It had been threatening major storms for the entire day, and we were SO ready for a break in the humidity. Finally at 7 p.m., thunder & lightning plus heavy rain for hours, and at times the RV was rocking a little from the wind. We watched the tent campers run for shelter to their cars. We were sure their tents and many belonging were soaked. The rain let up a little from time to time, but it was still going on when we went to bed close to 11 p.m. It rained all night. Relief!
