Marble River Recreation Site

A CHANGE OF PLANS – OPTING FOR ANOTHER QUIET DAY.

Day 300 – We were supposed to travel today, the relatively short distance to a new campground. Months ago, we’d made a reservation for six nights at Telegraph Cove’s Alder Bay RV Park & Marina. But plans change, which is one reason it’s sometimes difficult to plan where you’re going to be several months in advance. Because we didn’t like Cluxewe Resort RV Park and went to a different campground instead, and because we so loved our substitute, Marble River Recreation Area, we were in no hurry to show up at a campground that was popular with lots of people. We decided to stay an additional night at Marble River, called Alder Bay and they said, no problem, they would hold our site, we will spend another day in the screened tent fighting off dangerous animals in the woods.

A QUIET WEEKEND DAY, SORT OF.

Day 299 – Even though it’s a Saturday in August, prime vacation time, today was quiet in the campground. We heard voices now and then and a car went by on the campground road a couple of times – that’s it. Except for a possible bear or cougar.

Day 298 – It appears the rain is over for a few days. Today was a perfect day for a whalewatching trip. It was 54 degrees when we woke up, but it had reached 60 by the time we left for Port McNeill at 10:30 a.m. It was partly cloudy with no wind and calm seas when we checked in at MacKay Whale Watch at 11:30.

Day 297 – It’s cooler here – low 50’s when we wake up and highs in the 60’s during the day. It rained on & off today and last night. Today was cloudy.

A QUIET, RAINY DAY.

Day 296 – It rained on and off all day and the high was 60 degrees. No wonder it’s so lush and green here. Tomorrow will be a busy day. After more than three weeks since being mailed from Florida, our mail has arrived in Campbell River. We will spend about five hours driving there and back and do all shopping we can think of in advance of several upcoming weeks in much more remote areas.

Speaking of remote, we only have a very sporadic signal here at Marble River – back to the boonies again. We are happy here. Only occasionally did we hear a vehicle pass by on the campground road. We spent several hours in the screened tent this afternoon until it was raining too hard and we had to go inside. The kitties seem quite contented, too.

To: Marble River Recreation Site, between Port Alice & Port McNeill, BC.

Day 295 – Well, today did not turn out like we thought it would! We thought we’d have a short drive before settling in at our next campsite. We departed Port Alice RV Park at 11:25 a.m. after fully dumping tanks there. It was 66 degrees and mostly cloudy.
