Day 36 – 6:45 a.m., 52 degrees. Week Six begins with a Swamp Boat Tour this morning. First, Rob took a bike ride on the Fitness Trail and Upland Pine Trail and some Park roads. There are 3 Boat Tours per day; if the alligators aren’t awake yet this morning, we may take an afternoon Tour another day.

Day 35 – Rob got up at 7 a.m., I slept in. He took his coffee and the camera and walked over to the Boat Basin and found out the Nature Trail wasn’t open yet. Walked to the end of the road and took pictures of wild turkeys, deer and some egrets. Then when he got back to the Ranger Station, the Nature Trail was open. This is a beautiful boardwalk thru the swamp.

Day 34 – 7 a.m., 58 degrees. Packed up and dumped tanks, departed Crooked River at 10 a.m. Sunny, beautiful day. We’ll be out in the boonies at this next campground, don’t know if we’ll have cell phone & internet connections there. We hopped on I-95 South for a short distance into Florida and then headed West on small roads, going back to GA, back to FL, and back to GA again. Interesting drive through small towns and old neighborhoods. There’s only one road to get to Stephen C. Foster State Park and it is the only entrance located completely inside of the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge. That road goes 17 miles into the Okefenokee Swamp and ends at the State Park. There are no cities close by.

Day 32 – Warming up, 45 degrees and sunny this morning. Another busy day ahead. We went into Kingsland rather than St. Mary’s to take care of our errands, hoping to have all the stores we needed in 1 town. Did laundry, that’s always fun; had to go to several different stores for groceries (hard to find organic products in smaller towns, never did find coconut milk but did find almond milk, and will probably not die if the food we eat is not organic, LOL), no Jersey Mike’s here either (closest place was Jacksonville, FL) so got our travel sandwiches from Fireman Subs, a chain we’ve seen in GA and SC. These look good, will report on them tomorrow after we’ve tried them, but I bet they aren’t as good as Jersey Mike’s! (You can see what our biggest problems are these days: where to get the best sandwich when you are gonna be on the roads, ho ho.)

Day 31 – Happy Saint Patrick’s Day! 35 degrees at 8 a.m., sunny and still. After coffee, Rob went into town to Lowe’s in Kingsland (there were none in St. Mary’s) and bought a roll of finer mesh screen material, “Insect Screening, Tighter Mesh to Keep Out No-See-Ums” is what the label says. We’re only replacing the screens on 2 of the windows first, as an experiment, because the screens that came with the RV are very nice and allow more light and more air to come in, and we don’t want to get rid of those if these others don’t work. The cats have been very helpful with this endeavor, like 2 or 3 year old kids, persistently into everything!

Day 30 – Brrrrrr! 30 degrees at 7 a.m. but once it warms up it’ll be great – sunny and clear out. Rob walked to the photography blind at the pond, took some pictures, and his coffee kept him warm. He set up the screened tent for us to use when it warms up.

Day 29 – 6:45 a.m., clear & windy, 35 degrees. We could only get our campsite for 2 nights so we’re moving on today. Too bad ‘cuz this is a really nice campground. But maybe the one we check into this afternoon will be, too. Hopefully other Georgia State Parks will be as good since we’re planning on staying at several of them.

Day 29 – It was still raining when we got up this morning, 43 degrees and windy. We can’t believe we’ve been on the road for a month as of today! The dream is real, and we are loving it. And to celebrate, we went looking for alligators this afternoon, AND FOUND THEM.

Day 28 – Cold last night, 41 degrees at 8 a.m. with more rain on its way. Getting ready to move on to Georgia. Departed Lake Aire Campground after packing up, dumping, and chores at a little after 11 a.m. The girls said, oh no, not again……then crawled off to sleep. Said good-bye to South Carolina and arrived at Skidaway Island State Park near Savannah, Georgia at 1:40 p.m., 52 degrees, cloudy & breezy.
