OUT & ABOUT BEFORE THE HEAVY RAINS.
Day 180 – I said we don’t eat out much; I guess I lied because we ate out twice again today. The storm front we’d been hearing about is approaching with lower temperatures, heavy rain & wind. Today it rained buckets for a couple of hours, stopped for an hour or two, then repeat, changing to all heavy rain throughout the night.

Day 179 – It rained last night; plenty of puddles this morning. It rained on and off today which made it a good day to take a long drive to scope out campgrounds for later in April. We drove all day and it was new territory for us. Also, with the rain coming and going it made it very pretty out – the bark of the trees was wet which made them almost black, contrasting with the new growth of the leaves, flowers, and branches. The highway glistened from the moisture and mist was rising from the road and from roofs of houses. The waves were crashing below and when the sun did shine on the water, it sparkled.

Day 178 – Another beautiful day before rain and a cold front move in. We took a drive south to visit some places that were supposed to be good for spotting Roosevelt Elk, watching for Whales, and visiting a Lighthouse.

Day 177 – It was 43 degrees and sunny around 7 a.m. this morning. We were in no hurry to leave because we couldn’t check in at our next campground until after noon and it wasn’t very far away from where we are now.
A DAY OF DRIVING.
Day 176 – It was wet and muddy out this morning. We had paid for this campground through tonight, but we don’t know where to go tomorrow. On top of that, the heavy rains showed us a weakness in the skylight over the shower by giving us a steady drip of rain into the shower stall. Well, it could be worse; I mean, if you had a leak wouldn’t you want it to be in your shower? So Rob spent some time studying up on skylight leaks in RV’s; I looked at the availability of campsites where we are, so we could just pay for a couple more nights here, while Rob fixed the shower.

Day 175 – The rain and wind storm has been going on since late yesterday afternoon. Just when you think it’s going to let up, it’s back being nasty again. No drought here, boy. There are several things we wanted to do in this area. Hopefully tomorrow we can take a drive up north along the coast. We’ll see what the weather does. Whales are migrating north; it’s that time of year, and supposedly about an hour north of here you get to the areas along the coast where you can see them the best. But for now, we are hunkered down.

Day 174 – At 8:10 a.m. this morning it was 48 degrees, cloudy, and no wind. The wind and rain are supposed to begin this afternoon. We weren’t in any hurry to leave here since our next campground isn’t very far away and we already have reservations, sight of the campsite unseen.

Day 173 – The high today was 61 degrees and it was very windy. Wing Foilers came in to take advantage of the winds on Lake Floras. We are camping with an athletic bunch! (Wing Foiling is surfing with “a hand-held wing that enables the surfer to be up and foiling instantly. Foiling is holding the wing over your head. This allows them to cut upwind, cruise downwind, and ride swell without the aid of a windsurfing sail or kite”. From Columbia River Gorge Oregon tourist brochure.)

Day 172 – It was still windy this morning when we got up at 7:30 a.m. Most of the campers departed today and only one trailer replaced them. That was a surprise because of the upcoming weekend and the wind, we thought it would be more crowded.

Day 171 – It was 43 degrees this morning, foggy & no wind. It’s supposed to be windy today near the coast and that’s where we’re headed. We’ve got a fairly short drive to above Port Orford, and there’s lots of beautiful scenery between here and there.
