OUT & ABOUT BEFORE THE HEAVY RAINS.
Day 180 – I said we don’t eat out much; I guess I lied because we ate out twice again today. The storm front we’d been hearing about is approaching with lower temperatures, heavy rain & wind. Today it rained buckets for a couple of hours, stopped for an hour or two, then repeat, changing to all heavy rain throughout the night.
We’d spent lots of time exploring along the coast here, so we decided to drive inland today. Wanting to have lunch before the drive, we went to a small cafe in Florence, Fresh Harvest Cafe. They only serve breakfast and lunch. We’d noticed that every time we drove by, their parking lot was full – good sign. It was fantastic. Great service, coffee and espresso drinks, and excellent food. We got Crepes, one Crab and one Smoked Salmon, and split them. They were large and stuffed full, very fresh. We saw large salads being served, too. I wanted to try everything on the menu! After we’d ordered we saw they had Crab Benedict (also Ham or Shrimp or Vegetable) served only on weekends. Our lunch was so good, we decided to come back tomorrow before moving to our new campground.
We drove east on a well-maintained road. Like yesterday, the intermittent rain and sun made our surroundings glow. Eventually we were on a winding two-lane road, then a one-lane, narrow gravel road deep in the forest. Occasionally we saw a house or two. No electricity. Really out there. On the one-lane road we encountered no one else driving, but there was a sign that posted the hours the school bus came down the road.
Back to the RV. The high today was 52 degrees and it became windy. Rob got pictures outside in front of the RV overlooking the water. Busy Duck – amazing.

We went out to dinner to the Waterfront Depot Restaurant in the Old Town historic district. The place was packed with a 60 to 90 minute wait at 5 p.m. We usually go out early to beat the crowds, but the crowds beat us. There were 4 seats available at the bar, and you could eat dinner there, so we grabbed the bar seats. Dinner was fantastic, like lunch, so good that we have to go back and eat there again! We had specialty cocktails and an appetizer of Crab-Stuffed Mushrooms that was amazing. For dinner Rob got Grilled Scallops over Angel Hair Pasta with a Dill Cream Sauce, and I had the Crab-Encrusted Halibut. The homemade bread loaf was French Roasted Garlic served with Basil Pesto and the standard olive oil/vinegar for dipping. Luckily the campground we’re moving to is close by. We will come back again!
There was a beautiful rainbow over the Harbor, visible from the RV. We enjoyed camping at the Marina/Port – it was beautiful and scenic and conveniently close to everything we needed.
