Day 91 – Up at 8 a.m., it was 36 degrees & sunny. Before last night there was no one camping near us. Then after it got dark, a trailer moved in right behind us and the noise began. A toddler was complaining/crying & people were running around – okay so these things happen. But after ½ hour of er-er-er-er-er-er-er-er noise, which sounded like someone trying to start an engine over & over & over & over, Rob went over to see if they needed help or something. It was the child sitting on a little electric bicycle-toy going back & forth again & again. Okay then, that was explained. Then around 10:30 p.m., a truck came in pulling a trailer. It’s dark out & they cannot see if sites are big enough for them, so they must try backing in to every site around us, over & over again, headlights blaring into the bedroom. We have to shut all the shades & windows & put in ear plugs. Poor us, LOL. No really, these are the disadvantages of people arriving after-hours at night, picking their own sites when the office is closed and/or children wound up from a long drive being set free as soon as they’ve arrived & the parents are setting up. There are definitely times when being at home in your own quiet house is preferred. That, or else we are really getting crotchety in our old, retired age. LOL.

We went to the Mendocino Botanical Gardens around 11 a.m. and spent hours there.  Lots of hummingbirds flitting from flower to flower, lovely gardens, and great trails – one of them going to the cliff’s edge above the Ocean.  Mendocino Botanical Gardens, 18220 North Highway 1, Fort Bragg, CA 95437, (707) 964-4352 ext. 16, www.gardenbythesea.org.

It was a beautiful day, high of 61 degrees, & sunny with very little wind. After the Gardens, we went to Noyo Headlands & sat outside at the cliff looking for whales. We didn’t see any, but it was really nice watching the fishing boats, listening to the seals cavorting at the channel marker buoy, and seeing the waves crash over the rocks. There was a friendly gopher that kept peeking his head out of his hole to see what we were up to.  End of Week 13, Trip #3.
