Day 69 – We were both up around 8 a.m., looking forward to another sunny day. It was 36 degrees last night, but it warmed up fairly quickly today. We packed a lunch so we wouldn’t overeat again, and headed out to go into Fortuna to get a cell signal. We’ve done this so many times, the car can just drive itself there. The temperature in the house held steady overnight; we’ve got our fingers crossed it stays that way. Last night Rob did a few tests on the inverter. It’s working just as it should be. All is again good in our little world.
We went to the Humboldt Botanical Garden & spent almost three hours there, leisurely walking the trails. Where there are plants, there are usually birds. Grin. Rob got lots of pictures. The Botanical Garden is a wonderful place. It’s located on a hillside above the College of the Redwoods. Spring flowers must be outrageous here!

We had our lunch, then drove through the tiny town of Fernbridge, over the historic bridge, and through beautiful farm country. We stopped to take pictures of a couple of quirky large signs (like cut-outs from a billboard) & a pond that was covered with Egrets & Gulls. Some of the healthiest cows & sheep I’ve ever seen; very nice farms.
We drove through the charming town of Ferndale with their victorian homes, inns, and storefronts. Just an immaculate city – it looked like a great place to live. After Ferndale we drove through more farmlands – even the farms were perfectly maintained – heading towards the Lost Coast Headlands on a road that meandered through forests, and along the Ocean, with great views. The Lost Coast Headlands consists of 653 acres of public land (managed by the BLM). We stopped at a Park & trailhead and got some pictures. We passed by a turnoff to a road that begins a long, interesting-looking loop drive we’ll take tomorrow, weather permitting.
We drove back to the RV & made huge salads & had an early dinner. The weather was great today, with a high of 59 degrees & mostly sunny, not windy. Looking forward to another day of exploring tomorrow. We’ll probably be checking out some campgrounds for future camping, too. We’ll need to dump tanks in a day or two, so we’ll have to think about moving on. It’ll be hard, though; this campground is special, and neither of us wants to leave.
