A LITTLE SIGHTSEEING.
Day 22 – This morning when we got up there was very little wind and it was sunny, 38 degrees. A good day for a drive, YAAA! We were up and around, getting things done so we could leave, rather than sitting around and relaxing. We definitely got some accusing stares from the girls. We told them that we weren’t leaving in the RV, that they could stay home. They still looked anxious.
We drove east along the water on a two-lane road without much traffic. We turned off on a narrow road to drive to Caribou Island. We went to the end of the road on the Island and stopped to walk around where the boulders separated the road from the sea. There was a lighthouse there that needed repairs. It was a beautiful, sunny day with a light breeze and the sea was calm. A couple of fishing boats were out in the channel.

There were lots of trees down around the Island, too. Rob had asked the owner of the campground about all the trees we’d seen, and he said there was a big hurricane last Fall with 180 km winds – it did lots of damage. On the way back to get on the two-lane road, we passed by ponds and inlets. At one we saw several Willets and two Great Blue Herons. We stopped to take pictures. The Willets fluffed up their feathers and marched off, away from the water, squawking. The Great Blues didn’t care.

We meandered south through some farmlands and rolling hills until we reached the city of Truro. We stopped for lunch before turning around and heading back to the RV, a different way than we’d come. The long drive was worth it just for lunch! We parked downtown and walked to Bistro 22; we had to drive around to find a parking space. Considering it was off season, it was pretty busy downtown. There were various shops with the standard T-shirts and mugs for souvenirs. There were art galleries, antique shops, a record/comic book store, a Pub and a Pizza place, etc. The restaurant was a small place with only 10 tables. We got there just in time before all tables were occupied. They do take reservations if we come back, note to self. We both got the Lobster Panini (as did nearly everyone else, if watching the fulfilled orders go by was any indication). With the Lobster Panini we had our choice of a side of house salad, caesar salad, soup of the day, haddock chowder, or house specialty macaroni and cheese. I chose the Caesar Salad; Rob chose the Macaroni & Cheese. The Lobster Panini was served on homemade roll and was great; the side orders were fantastic. We were so impressed that we ordered dinner to go: a large Caesar Salad with Lobster, a large Haddock Chowder with a homemade Biscuit, and two slices of homemade Cheesecake topped with fresh Blueberries. When we left the restaurant, there was a man playing guitar and singing Canadian folk songs outside one of the storefronts. We hurried home to have dinner. LOL. Not really, but we were happy when dinner time came and the meal was very good! Bistro 22, 16 Inglis Place, Truro, NS, Canada B2N 4B4; (902) 843-4123; they stop serving lunch at 2 p.m. and reopen at 5 p.m. for dinner, and an all-day brunch is served on Saturdays; closed Sunday thru Tuesday.
We got back to the RV at 3 p.m. and sat outside on the deck provided by the RV Park. It was still sunny without much wind. We saw six Great Blue Herons in the bay. The high today was 66 degrees in Truro.
