A LITTLE WARMER TODAY.
Day 21 – 37 degrees this morning and still windy, but the sun was out. It’s supposed to warm up tomorrow and Friday, then it rains. We really want to drive around the area; it’s very nice here. Today we just went into Pictou to run some errands.
The city of Pictou is only a few minutes from the campground. It’s a nice town with some really old buildings and it’s quite busy here in the Summer. We were able to get parking spaces easily since it’s a weekday out of season. We stopped at the Post Office to mail a couple of things, and we stopped at Grohmann’s Knife Store where Rob dropped off two limb-pruning saws (that we use on the land) to get the blades sharpened. Then we went to Water Street to get lunch at a popular restaurant, Stone Soup Cafe & Catering. We turned the wrong way into a one-way street. Nova Scotian’s townspeople rushed towards us in concern, pointing, go that way, go that way. Oops. Damn foreigners, they were probably thinking. We promptly turned around with our tails between our legs, and went the long way around to get to Water Street. The Cafe was worth it. A small place near the water with only 7 tables, we were early enough that we didn’t have to wait for a seat. They serve breakfast & lunch until 2 p.m. They have freshly-baked pastries. We opted for breakfast and had a baked good, one for each of us.
Then we went grocery shopping at a larger store & were able to find everything we needed (need to be totally stocked up before Newfoundland). Rob also checked out the liquor store for some beer – they don’t seem to have beer from his favorite brewery, Founders. He’s sampling different beers here to try to find some he likes. Karen, can you send him some of your homemade beer?
Back at the RV we took pictures of an immature Bald Eagle pair; one was pulling up grasses from the marsh for nesting material.
Today the campground opened for the 2023 season. Several campers came in. Most of the seasonal trailers are still not occupied. The owner was very nice to let us come in two days before they opened. It was windy and cold today with a high of 53 degrees. The girls spent most of the day on the dashboard enjoying the sun. It kept then nice and warm.
