Monday Oct. 20 – Friday Oct. 31, 2025

A very busy 2 weeks!

On Monday Oct. 20 Rob worked alone for part of the day making exterior window trim. Wayne arrived later and he and Rob installed the remaining two windows in the front of the house.

Making window trim:

On Tuesday Oct. 21 the full crew worked with a borrowed lift to install the electrical service weatherhead on top of a very high pole and to install fascia trim. Rob continued making window trim. In the afternoon it rained, limiting what could be completed.

On Wednesday Oct. 22 it rained in the morning. The electrician came to do some additional work toward hooking up power to the new panel in the house. Rob and crew worked on installing window and fascia trim.

On Thursday Oct 23, the full crew continued installing window and fascia trim.

On Friday Oct. 24, Rob and the full crew plus Brandon worked on completing the roof fascia and window trim and began installing the siding skirt board. They also installed the back porch ceiling roof insulation.

On Saturday Oct. 25, we took a day off from work and went to Machias. Rob went to the lumber yard and hand picked some trim to be delivered Monday. We had been having a problem with some of the delivered trim being damaged and he wanted to be sure he got the good stuff this time.

In the evening we discovered that Pixie wasn’t feeling well and probably had a bladder infection. We got some good advice from our neighbors on which vets might be available, just not on a Saturday night! We called around and found that there were no good options for an emergency vet in the immediate area. The closest emergency vet is located in Bangor, 2 hours away. We called them and they were so busy that they were temporarily diverting all patients further south, which would involve at least a 4 hour drive. We decided to leave early Sunday morning and just show up at the Bangor emergency vet around 8 and see if they could take us.

On Sunday Oct. 26, we left at 6:30 for Bangor and arrived at the Northern Maine Emergency Vet Hospital at 8:30. They were great! We didn’t have to wait long before they took Pixie in and did some tests. She had a bad UTI. We got some antibiotics and headed home. They advised us to have her rechecked in a week to make sure that the antibiotics had worked. Since we couldn’t get any appointments for a recheck close to our land, we’ll be back in Bangor next Sunday to get her checked out.

On Monday Oct. 27, it rained all day and Rob worked alone making window trim. He also completed the installation of the well pressure tank in praparation for connection to power.

On Tuesday Oct. 28, Versant power came to switch us over to our new 200A service panel. After they finished that, the electrician finished hooking us up and completing a few final items. We now have power in the house! Rob, Jesse, Cody and Channon continued working on shingling the roof and installing the first of two skylights. We worked late completing shingling on the East side of the cottage.

On Wednesday Oct. 29, the full crew worked on shingling the west side of the roof and installing the second skylight. Rob and Wayne started erecting the posts and beams for the covered front porch.

On Thursday Oct. 30, the full crew worked extremely hard to complete shingling the garage roof. We worked past dark, but ran out of time. Rob and Wayne completed raising the posts and beams of the front porch and putting on the little roof.

On Friday Oct. 31, it rained a LOT! No construction progress today, so we did laundry. Fun!

How do you two sleep at night, after all of the excitement over the progress made on your cabin earlier in the day?
