Saturday Nov. 1 – Monday Nov 17, 2025

Oh boy! Here comes winter!

Winter is really coming! Cliff Haven, ME

On Saturday Nov. 1, Jesse and Channon worked on completing the roof shingling, finishing by midday. Thanks Downeast Cabin Builders for all the hard work to get the roof finished! Rob worked on the front porch roof weather barrier in preparation for installing trim and shingles.

We will be taking a week off starting Wednesday Nov. 5 to attend a memorial service for Vicki’s step mom in Maryland. The guys are taking advantage of the time off to work on another project they have going, so Rob will be working alone for a while. On Friday, we finally received some long-awaited material for the soffits which will be installed when we get back from our trip down south and the guys are available.

From Wednesday Nov. 5 to Tuesday Nov. 11 we traveled south to attend the memorial service in MD.

We had planned to stay the night at home on Nov. 6 and then travel down to the Easton area on the 7th to Trap Pond State Park campground nearby in DE.

On the way down the NYS thruway at a rest stop we saw a long line of police vehicles escorting a huge tractor trailer. They pulled into the rest stop and we saw that they were transporting a HUGE tree. The Christmas trre for the Rockefeller Center in NYC! By the time we left the rest area, the flashing lights had caused a huge traffic jam on the thruway as people slowed down to take a look.

We just camped in our driveway in NY in the RV since moving the cats to the house and back just for an overnight stay would be too disruptive for them.

In the early morning of the 7th, Pixie had a recurrence of her UTI symptoms and we headed to the emergency vet a half hour away in Kingston. Her UTI had come back with a vengence and she was very sick. We got different meds for her since the antibiotics didn’t seem to fully take care of the problem last time. While we were waiting for Pixie to be examined a very friendly cat came to visit us in the waiting room.

We got back to the RV around 4am and decided that Pixie wasn’t up to another long day of driving. We were lucky that we were camping in our driveway so we could just stay there until Pixie was stronger.

We were fortunate to be able to attend the memorial service via Zoom. It was a beautiful service. We wish we were able to attend in person. We love you all.

We stayed in the driveway until the new meds kicked in and Pixie was able to tolerate a long drive. We left Monday morning Nov. 10 and drove to one of the few campgrounds that is open this time of year between NY and Maine for an overnight stay in Littleton, MA. We got back to Maine on Tuesday Nov. 11 after a long drive. We set ourselves back up in our camping spot on the land for the final push to get the cottage weather tight for Winter.

On Wednesday Nov. 12 thru Sunday Nov. 16 Rob worked alone on prepping trim because the guys were still working their other job. The final two windows were delivered on the 13th, but they are too heavy for Rob to install alone, so that’ll have to wait for the crew. We also got a quote for installation of the rain gutters and arranged for the garage door to be installed on Dec. 1.

On Friday the 14th we ran out of propane and had a few flurries that focused our attention on the coming Winter. We went to get the propane tank filled and they were almost out of propane at the local garage where we usually get it. We did manage to get the tank filled with the last dregs from their tank.

On Saturday the 15th we went to the lumber yard in Machias to get a third propane tank just in case. Running out of propane and not being able to get more would not be good!

On Sunday night it started snowing and continued through this morning and it is still lightly snowing at 9am.
