Good Luck, Carol!

GOING HOME!

Day 167 – When Rob came in this morning, there was no one in the bed! He looked around and found me walking around the nursing station.

We thought I would be discharged tomorrow, but the doctor came in late this morning and said that the cardiac monitor showed no irregularities and I could go home today!! He went over my new meds that are intended to minimize any chances of another stroke. The nurse gave us a handful of those meds to take until I get home and get new prescriptions in the US.

We were expecting some kind of visit from business administration to give us the bad news, since we didn’t have travel medical insurance. When we asked the doctor about it, he just laughed and said that they were pretty loose about that. They’ll just send a bill I guess. We also expected to be wheeled to the curb like they do in the US, but they just said OK, Bye Bye and we walked out of the hospital on our own.

It was wonderful to go home!!! The kitties, Rob, the RV, everything!

We got to the campground and one of the owners, Bonnie, couldn’t believe her eyes that I was able to come home. She was grinning and said she had goose bumps. Bonnie’s husband, Jason, offered to give us some freshly caught lobsters tomorrow to celebrate. He wanted it to be a surprise, but Rob told me anyway.

We also wanted to thank our neighbors camping next door last Thursday. As Rob was leaving to go to the ER, they handed him a note offering help with anything we needed. They also left a nice note a few days later when they left to go back to Ontario. Everyone has been so amazing!

Everyone that helped me medically, from the paramedics to the ER staff to the stroke ward doctors and nurses, was amazingly compassionate and positive. The Canadian healthcare system rocks!

Oh Vicki – WOW – what a journey!! So happy that you are back home with Rob and the kitties! Just got caught up with everything this morning. Was wondering for several days why no blog activity. I thought maybe it had to do with no internet access or something crazy ……never let my mind think that it could have been a medical situation! Will be wishing you a full recovery and sending lots of love and prayers to you and Rob and the Kitties!!!!
