HAPPY BIRTHDAY, SOPHIE! WE HOPE IT’S PURRFECT!
Day 153 – It was 51 degrees this morning with dense clouds. It wasn’t supposed to rain until 2 p.m., so we went for a drive in the mountains north of Corner Brook, thinking the sun might come out for some pictures and views. Didn’t happen. It began raining at 11 a.m. and it rained all day. The high temperature today was 55 degrees.

The scenery would’ve been good from the higher elevations if the weather had been better. We couldn’t even see the top of the mountains; they were in the clouds. We didn’t take any pictures. There were some ritzy neighborhoods and a couple of fancy ski resorts up in them-there hills! Mansions nestled in the woods overlooking Humber River and Deer Lake. We figured people from St. John’s probably summer or winter here in their “cottages”.
We decided to run errands in Corner Brook, taking advantage of the rainy weather. First we stopped for lunch at the wonderful “Harbour Grounds Cafe”. We discovered this small cafe the last time we were here. They only serve breakfast & lunch. We each had a Pesto, Spinach, and Vegetable Panini. They were excellent. We each took one home for dinner, and we bought several pastries for future desserts.
We went to a shopping center to take care of our errands: a large grocery stock-up, and a trip to Pet Value (like Pet Smart) to get enough cat food and kitty litter to get us home in November. Tomorrow will be a cooking day if it’s still raining, and hopefully the weather will improve by Thursday, our last day in this area, for a scenic drive of the North Humber Arm peninsula.
