LAST DAY ON THE BURIN PENINSULA.
Day 100 – It was 68 degrees this morning when we got up, raining and quite humid. The rain continued until 11 a.m. Throughout the day the temperature remained fairly steady, the sun came out, and the humidity level dropped. This was a day of catching up with chores plus getting ready to leave this campground tomorrow morning.
The phone connection was good enough to make some Newfoundland calls to change some campground reservations previously made. The original plans had changed to accommodate moving a week at La Scie in late May to a week in early August, due to the weather conditions there in May. We also called ahead to Chelsea’s Fish ‘n Chips in Lewisporte near our upcoming campground. We needed to check on the availability of fresh Lobster & fresh Crab for purchase on Sunday. We are working on filling the freezer & refrigerator up again, and with today’s grocery shopping and Sunday’s fish shopping, plus the recent Scallops we bought, it won’t be difficult. The problem will be having enough room for all the fish. Poor us! Hee hee. Rob did some tank dumping preparation. We cooked dinner for tonight and tomorrow night; we don’t like to cook on a travel day.
After lunch at the RV, we went to Marystown for grocery shopping and to get one of the portable propane tanks refilled. Unfortunately, but not a huge problem, we couldn’t find a place to refill the propane tank. We should be able to find something in Lewisporte.
Tomorrow’s two-night stopover will be at Notre Dame Provincial Park. Then with propane tanks full and food restocked, on Monday we’ll be heading southwest to a more remote area again – the Connaigre Peninsula – where we’ll be staying at Deadman’s Cove Town Park in Harbour Breton. After a steady rain, the day cleared beautifully. We sat out in the tent in the afternoon, until it was time to put up the tent for our drive tomorrow. It was gorgeous out. A Loon floated by on the water; maybe it’s the same one that sings a looney tune to us at night. The wildflowers loved the rain. Everything was very lush. A Kingfisher stopped by to try to find out when we were leaving his territory. A Junco hopped around the tent, occasionally looking up to see if we were watching. Very nice! The high today at the campground was 72 degrees.
