THIS AND THAT.
Day 99 – The low temperature was 63 degrees last night. We certainly picked the best day for a sunny drive yesterday. This morning it was humid with some clouds. We didn’t have to make the long drive back up to Parker’s Cove today after all. Wilson, the Scallop Man, called to let us know that “the Missus” would be in Marystown, {not too far from our campground), for an appointment and we could meet her there to pick up the Scallops. We were happy not to make the drive to Parker’s Cove.
Where in Marystown? Do we just roam the many streets in search of a woman in a car that was carrying Scallops? Ah, good question. He said, “At Tim Horton’s.” (Tim Horton’s is THE popular fast food place in most of Canada – think McDonald’s in drive-thru appearance. For fried chicken, Canadian’s have Mary Brown’s – their KFC. For donuts, it’s Robin’s.) Okay, so where at Tim Horton’s? Is their more than one? Inside or outside? How will we recognize her? He said, “The one off the main road.” When, one wonders. Do we sit all day and wait? “She’ll be there 10:30-11”, he answered after I asked. He did have us call her phone number so she’d have it on her phone. Um, give us a description or something. Newfoundlanders are like this. They don’t worry about minor everyday things. It’ll all work out, you know. (I’m sure they worry about how to pay the bills or will they catch enough fish or will the pipes freeze. But they seem to be merrily going about their lives day-to-day, not sweating the small stuff.)
Before going out this morning to Marystown, Rob went out, conveniently from right at the campsite, for a good kayak paddle. He wanted to get out before it got hot later. I was still stumbling around trying to wake up. He definitely picked the best time of day, and he enjoyed it! We sat out in the tent in the afternoon, and later we took several pictures of the flowers at the campsite. Rob got a picture of a new bird (to us) – a Boreal Chickadee. It was cloudy, warm and humid most of the day. The fans were a necessity.

We met “the Mussus” at the parking lot of Tim Horton’s at a little after 11 a.m. We called her when we arrived and left a message. She called right back and said she’d be there in 10 minutes. We told her that we we’d be in the Honda with the kayaks on top. She found us easily. We had no need to worry. She handed a heavy recyclable shopping bag, we paid her, she chatted a little, told us we could keep the shopping bag (which was a nice one) – very friendly, of course – and we all went on our way. When we got back to the RV, we were amazed at the Scallops. SO fresh, smelling like you could eat them right now. A large group of Scallops, the big ones. We’d hit the jackpot.
It’s supposed to start raining around 3 a.m. and rain all night and tomorrow. Sounds like a good time to do some chores. Grocery shopping, cooking, laundry, all the fun stuff. Today, we relax.
