A BUSY DAY.
Day 403 – Well, you can’t be lazy every day. We decided to go back to the Brigantine Division of the Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge. It was 30 degrees last night and is supposed to get into the 20’s tonight. It was less windy this morning. We figured we’d better go out today since it continues getting colder for the next few days.
When we drive through Wildlife Refuges, we keep at least one or two windows down for taking pictures from the car. Sometimes there’s not time to get out of the car to take a photo if the birds are on the move. It’s much more comfortable if it is warm outside, otherwise we bundle up and turn the heat on with the window(s) down. When we got to the Refuge, we went into the Visitor’s Center to get a map of the Auto Tour, and to see what the status was regarding the bird migration. We were told that some of the birds have started arriving. They will continue to do so through December.
Bundled up with the heat on and one window down, we hopped on the drive. The Auto Tour was a little busy. People were pulled over taking pictures or just watching the birds. We saw Harriers, a Peregrine Falcon, Cormorants, lots of Great Blue Herons and Great Egrets, Ruddy Ducks, Seagulls, Buffleheads, Mallards, Teals (and other ducks), and Dunlins (and other shorebirds), plus Canada Geese. We’re sure it will be amazing when all the birds are here for the winter! It was a nice day, clear with sun, just cold and a little windy. We could see Atlantic City across the water from the Wildlife Refuge.

We had intended to only be gone a few hours, but Rob noticed that one of the Honda’s rear tires was completely bald. The other three tires were in various stages of becoming dangerous also. So before leaving the Refuge we called around the area to try to get an appointment for today. Everyone we called except Firestone couldn’t get us in until next week. We were planning on leaving Monday morning. Luckily Firestone could take us on such short notice. We spent the afternoon at the dealership waiting while the Honda got four new tires.
It was almost 4 p.m. when they finished. We were tired and hungry. On the way back to the RV, there just happened to be a Bonefish Grill. We had dinner there, returning to the campground before the girls were mad at us. The new tires will get us home safely and now the Honda should pass her overdue inspection when we get home.
