ABOUT NUMMY LAKE RECREATION AREA, BELLEPLAIN STATE FOREST, CCC CAMPGROUND, WOODBINE, NJ: We had never stayed at this campground before. We were pleasantly surprised. We will stay here again. We were 45 min. to an hour from the Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge Brigantine Division headquarters. This Refuge is quite large with access points along the Jersey Shore by boat and several large areas that can be hiked or driven more inland with marshes which the migrating birds love. The Auto Tour route is wonderful; there are boat launches within the Refuge. www.fws.gov/refuge/edwin_b_forsythe.com
The campground is also about 45 minute above Cape May, the Cape May/Lewes ferry terminal, and the boardwalks/platforms for watching the migrating Hawks and Falcons.
The Belleplain State Forest is located approximately halfway between Atlantic City and Cape May, NJ. The forest is beautiful and the entire area is well maintained. Even though you are close to residential areas and towns, the forest is isolated enough that you are in your own camping world. Very nice. We had originally made reservations for 1 week, planning to spend lots of time birdwatching. But the migrating waterfowl were just arriving towards the end of our stay, and the weather was much colder than normal with heavy winds. We left and headed for home two days early.
There are three campgrounds within the Recreation Area/State Forest: North Shore, Meisle Field, and CCC Camp. North Shore offers 84 tent and small vehicle campsites without hook-ups; Meisle Field offers 5 shelters, 14 lean-to structures, and approximately 50 regular campsites without hook-ups; and CCC Camp offers 36 campsites with water hook-ups & 30/50 AMP electrical hook-ups. The campground areas offer hiking trails, a concession stand, a beach, nature trails all around Lake Nummy, an athletic field, parking, a fitness trail, 2 large group sites, the forest office, restrooms, showers, water spigots, playgrounds, picnic tables and a picnic pavilion, an RV/Trailer dump station, a mountain bike trail, an interpretive center, swimming, and trash/recycling receptacles.
We had site #105 in the CCC Campground. We had electric and water hook-ups. The campsites were very large and those around us had no campsites close to them. We loved our site, but would also recommend #102 and #107. Large campsites with trees and bushes. We paid $285.00 for 7 nights which included $40 for fees, taxes, and $5 x 2 cats.
NOTE: They are strict about pets; no more than two dogs are allowed per campsite. To be safe we only reported two cats. All campers must present paperwork confirming their pets have had the appropriate vaccinations and that they are up to date.
