TRAVEL DAY
From: Prince Rupert RV Campground, Prince Rupert, BC.
To: Kleanza Creek Provincial Park, Terrace, BC.
Day 312 – It was cloudy this morning when we got up and 57 degrees. We departed Prince Rupert RV Campground at 10:55 a.m. Getting on the 16/Yellowhead Highway, we headed east. There wasn’t much traffic and it was foggy.

Day 311 – Today we went whalewatching with Prince Rupert Adventure Tours, a 4-hour boat ride on a 72-ft. Catamaran. We departed from the dock at 12:50 p.m. The boat was maybe half full. We headed north through straits and around islands, then east in an inlet where the whales like to feed. We were just 20 km below the Canadian border with Alaska. It took us an hour and 20 minutes to get there.

Day 310 – We were really dragging today, all of us, cats included. You step out of your routine and everything goes haywire. The campground is okay, not a lot of choices here, but we do have hook-ups (also a lack of privacy and plenty of noise). We took a short drive to familiarize ourselves with the area.

Day 309 – This is crazy. Did I say that I was not a morning person? Aaargh! I need my sleep. I was a ZOMBIE until about noon. Even Rob was a bit bleary eyed. The girls? They left last night with their knapsacks filled with food. They are backpacking it out, looking for a new home. You know, you can only push a cat so far – then they are DONE!

Day 308 – Yawn. We got up at 4:30 a.m. I am NOT a morning person. If everyone was like me, what a grouchy world there would be. (If everyone was like Rob, we’d all spring out of bed all chipper and happy. That would be better.) The girls were like: “What, more food? It’s so EARLY. But…..If we must eat, we will chow down…….” They are troopers.

Day 307 – Our signal here is intermittent, not as good as the last campground, but better than others. It rained on & off last night and all day today. We’re hoping the rain stops before our 2nd Grizzly Bear Trip tomorrow! When we checked in with Tide Rip this afternoon, we asked if they’d seen bears since Tuesday which is the last time we went out with them. They said they had. (They ask that passengers check in before 5 p.m. the day before their scheduled trip in case there are changes.) Fingers crossed for a day with lots of Bear sightings and no rain.

To: Quatse River Campground, Port Hardy, BC.
Day 306 – Check in at our new campground wasn’t until 2 p.m., so we knew we could relax and hang around at Alder Bay. It continued to rain during the night and was quite foggy this morning when we got up. Fogust.
Day 305 – Fogust again this morning – fogged in until about lunch time. We did a couple of loads of laundry at the campground’s laundry facilities. We sat outside when the sun was shining in the afternoon. Then it began raining and cooled down from 64 degrees to the low 50’s. We are leaving tomorrow for Port Hardy where we will be camping until we take the ferry off Vancouver Island on Tuesday.

Day 304 – It’s hard for us to believe that we’ve been away from home on this trip for ten months as of today. Definitely our longest trip yet. We feel completely at home waking up in the RV; we’re totally used to it. The scenery changes often, there’s always something new, and at times unexpected.

Day 303 – It’s nice to have a decent signal here. It’s been so rare. We’ll be here until Saturday. The campground, Alder Bay, is very large. We’re on a hill with a nice view of the Bay. Some campsites are bigger than others. Ours is big and in a good location. We haven’t been here much since we arrived on Monday, but in some areas it can get fairly noisy. This morning from the RV we watched a dense fog bank roll in and we couldn’t see anything around us. Just as quickly it rolled out again. Then the fishermen went out in their boats.
It rained a little this afternoon and later it became steady, supposed to rain all night and all day tomorrow. Before lunch we spent about an hour sitting outside when the campground was quiet. The weather yesterday for our boat ride was certainly much nicer than today’s weather. Our high was 67 degrees with clouds most of the day.
