Day 293 – It cooled down a little today; the high was 80 degrees and there was a breeze. Manageable, at least. We took a drive to the end of the paved road and onto gravel roads. Up into the hills, around the Neroutsos Inlet, we had wanted to get to a lookout to the “Panoramic Viewpoint” that was on a map.
Just after leaving town before the gravel road began, we passed by the Pulp Mill that was closed down about 5 years ago. It was large; it was the industry that had kept Port Alice going, and its closure is why the population is shrinking. It was sad.

Continuing on the road, the rivers and the occasional view of the waters of the Inlet were beautiful. We were in very remote territory, no houses, nothing but the road and lots of trees on both sides of the road as we continued to climb, looking forward to the amazing viewpoint. We reached it and couldn’t see anything but trees. Oh well.
We continued on the road, passed by a waterfall, turned around and drove into a tiny road, and got out of the car to see the beautiful waterfall. The mosquitoes and horseflies were enjoying our visit, too. We took pictures and quickly returned to the car. We stopped by the side of the road in a little shady spot & ate lunch in the car. We’d brought sandwiches with us.

We decided to turn around and drive back to the RV. Looking at the map, there was nothing else for many miles around on this log road, until the Pacific Ocean. To drive there and then return on the gravel road, hours of driving, was more than we felt like doing today. We hope our little heatwave is over now, and that it ends for everyone else soon, too!
