HAPPY CANADA DAY. AND HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TO US.
Day 263 – The campground is totally full. We had an early, small lunch at the RV because we have dinner reservations for tonight at 5 p.m. We went for a drive after lunch.
All the beach parking lots were full and cars were parked along the roads. The Tofino area was packed with people on this Canada Day holiday. There were plenty of people in the water, but the waves weren’t very big. The trails were packed with hikers and the bike trail that runs along the main road was very crowded. Where to go to get away from all the people? Well, looking for bears on the back roads, of course.
We took two logging roads, rough with rocks and gravel. Where it had been logged and the tall trees were gone, we saw no wildlife. But once we were in the areas where it was wooded, there was a big black bear, ambling along, looking for berries and when it found ripe ones, it got up on its hind legs and tore them off the branches – or tore off the branch. It was great. He/she wasn’t concerned with us – the bear just wanted its’ snacks.
Back at the RV we changed clothes and went out to dinner at Schooner Restaurant in Tofino. Because our reservation was early, we easily got a parking place. It would be impossible later as it got more crowded. We liked our dinner so much that we cancelled our reservations at a different restaurant for Sunday at 5 p.m. and booked a table at Schooner again. And we liked what we ate so much that we just may repeat the same items on Sunday, too. It was a perfect anniversary dinner! I will do a food review Sunday after our dinner there a second time.
