THE MAJESTIC REDWOODS.

Day 165 – Last night when Rob was attempting to upload yesterday’s pictures to the blog post, we discovered that we didn’t have enough signal for an internet connection. Therefore, unless the signal picks up, we won’t be able to post the blog until we leave here. The way things stand now, it will probably be Sunday or Monday before we can send the blog out.

This morning we packed a lunch and went to walk among the Redwood trees. The drive to Jedediah Smith State Park wasn’t long and the scenery getting there was lovely, driving along the windy road along the cliff looking down on the Smith River. There are many state parks within the Redwoods National Forest. This particular section of trees house some of the oldest. There were many people at Stout Grove; we were lucky to get a parking space. We think it may be spring break or something. The last time we were here it was more quiet and it was an amazing experience wandering around these huge, beautiful trees. Still, crowds or not, this is something that everyone should have the opportunity to do in their lifetime!

In addition to the hiking in the woods, there is a road, Howland Hill Road, that is equally amazing. It should be a single lane road because there are places where only one car at a time can fit thru. We’d driven this route when we were here before; we knew we must drive it again. It’s a dirt road that meanders through the redwood forest. There are many pull-outs – there has to be because you have to pull over to let cars coming from the opposite direction get by. There are also several parking lots where hikes through the woods begin. The lots were full; the place was crowded.

Next we drove into Crescent City. We went to the Harbor to check our e-mail. We finally had a signal, and we found that our mail had been delivered via general delivery. Before going to the post office, we walked around, drawn by the sound of the Sea Lion’s “barking”.

We ate our lunch and also made some phone calls to check availability at a campground in Oregon. Errands complete, we headed back to the RV, stopping first at the Smith River access point and picnic area at our campground.

We sat out in the tent and read our books, then went inside to make dinner for a few nights: Shrimp & Scallops in Thai Peanut Sauce over Angel Hair Pasta. The high today was 63 degrees and it was sunny after the fog dissipated. The campground remains quiet even though the weekend has begun.
