TRAVEL DAY
From: Los Banos Creek Campground, San Luis Reservoir State Recreation Area, Los Banos, CA.
To:Flag City RV Resort, Lodi, CA – Cosumnes River Preserve & Staten Island Preserve.
Day 154 – It was 10:55 a.m. when we left Los Banos Creek Campground – 60 degrees and sunny with a nice breeze. The water was like glass this morning and we wished we could stay longer, but we have to leave this SRA sometime!
We stopped for gas in the RV in Santa Nella, and with a slow pump it put us behind about ½ hour. The entire drive was on Interstate 5, a major north/south route through CA. The scenery wasn’t different than what we’ve been seeing – rolling hills, mountains in the distance hidden by smog, farmlands with cows and/or sheep, and lots of fruit and nut trees. The traffic was moving at least, and it was heavy with trucks. The road was good to rough at times. We arrived at our destination, Flag City RV Resort, just off I-5 west of Lodi at 1:10 p.m. It was 69 degrees, sunny and breezy.
We stayed at this Park as a stopover in 2017 on the way to visit Rob’s mom. It is basically a big parking lot with amenities: full hook-ups for 180 RV sites, a swimming pool & heated spa, propane on site, good location off I-5 between Sacramento and Stockton, surrounded by fast food restaurants and gas stations, 3 laundry rooms, a clubhouse & convenience store, restrooms & showers, 2.8 acre recreation area, picnic table at each site, concrete pads, etc. In addition, the Park is very well maintained and clean. It was surprisingly quiet last time we were here, so we decided to return and use it as a base camp for two excellent wildlife/birding sites: Staten Island Preserve & Cosumnes River Preserve.
We were sent to campsite #E30; we parked & let the girls out. They were not impressed. Do you think we might have spoiled them? They were like: I sure hope this is just a lunch stop. Where are the trees with the birdies in them? Why is there an RV on each side of us? You call this up to our standards? We were like: Give this place a chance, and yes, this is NOT just a lunch stop; this is where we are staying. Here….have some food…..
We all had lunch and they sort of settled in. BIG babies! When Rob was hooking us up, he discovered that our RV steps were frozen again and this time they did not fix themselves with tweeking from him. He make a few calls, got a part ordered, and we will be here until that arrives on (hopefully Wednesday or Thursday). I worked on a grocery list and we did 5 loads of laundry. (Folding the warm laundry on the bed like at home in NY did make the girls happy. Poor things.) We’ll also wash towels and sheets while we’re here and be good to go. The high today was 73 degrees. The weather was very nice.
