BURRO CREEK 4.

Day 116 – Another cold night but we had enough propane to keep us warm. Without the internet/weather forecast, we just wait to see what’s going to happen. All in all, today was warmer than yesterday with full sun and little wind.

Rob went for his walk this morning, lugging the camera around. Today he walked up the road and saw good scenery from a different prospective, a hummingbird, and a new bird – a Phainopepla.

After lunch we took the Honda out for a ride and she pretended she was a 4-wheel drive Jeep. The dirt road that leads to our campground goes beyond it and we drove that road until it led us back to US Highway 93 above the campground. We stopped along the way to take pictures of our campground from above it, on the other side of the canyon.

We’d seen a road on the DeLorme map that wound up into the hills. It was called the Seventeen Mile Road. We decided to take it and see where it would lead us. The scenery was good and the road, although dirt, was fairly well-maintained. The Seventeen Mile Road ended at Signal Road. We took a chance and drove Signal Road to see where it would lead us. It was not well-maintained but the scenery was interesting. The Honda agreed to continue being a Jeep and brought us safely to the end of Signal Road as it looped back to US Highway 93, 8 ½ miles above our campground. We made note of a good BLM camping area which we could use in the future if this campground was full. This second drive was a beautiful drive in the desert wilderness.

This afternoon when sitting in the tent a rabbit hopped by us and a hummingbird tried to get into the tent (our chairs are red and he was attracted) – neither was caught by the camera – they were quicker than us. Tonight, coyotes howled around the campground which started all the dogs going. Um, who let the dogs out? Later I let Rob out and he took a picture of the moon. Luckily he did not encounter the coyotes.

Who knew the desert could hold such beauty? I love your moon picture Rob. So good to have you both back.
