BURRO CREEK 3.
Day 115 – We woke up early this morning; it was very cold in the RV. We’d run out of propane in one of the small tanks. Rob went outside & switched to a different tank. He checked the thermometer outside – it was 23 degrees. Lucky the pipes didn’t freeze.
It was windy again when we got up, so we decided to do something much-needed and constructive – the dreaded laundry day. We drove an hour south of the campground; that was the closest laundromat. The town was Wickenburg, and we’d driven through it on the way here earlier in the week. You never know what you’re going to get, but luckily, this laundromat was very clean and not that expensive. It was small though, and fairly busy; we were afraid we wouldn’t have enough washers & dryers, but it worked out. No one was wearing a mask, except us. That’s Arizona – people don’t mask up nearly as much as New Mexico did. We tried not to breathe, and kept our distance as much as possible.
Wickenburg was VERY western, like out of an old west movie. The “historic” town center had saloon-style buildings, no swinging doors though, but still we felt like the ground should’ve been dirt and people should’ve been riding through on horses. The outer part of town was almost all fancy retirement communities, with more homes going up everywhere. We scurried out of town after getting Subway to go, gas for the Honda, and filling the propane tank. An hour later we were back at Burro Creek, the dreaded chore completed for awhile. The really good part of all that driving was that we got to go through the Joshua Tree Forest again – so beautiful.
At the campground it was still a bit windy and cool. Many of the campers had gone and the changing of the guard had occurred with people coming in for the weekend.
