TRAVEL DAY: COOKSBURG, PA TO SIGEL, PA.
Day 7 – It’s dark in the morning when we get up. That causes us to sleep later. We’re looking forward to the daylight savings time change coming up next month; it might drag us out of bed at an earlier time. The rain stopped and brought in much colder weather – it was 47 degrees, sunny and windy this morning when we got up. We had to turn the heat on. The girls appreciated that! After lunch we are leaving for the short drive to Clear Creek State Park. The campground we’re in now closes for the season today. Check-in time at Clear Creek is 3 p.m.
After dumping tanks we departed Cook Forest State Park at 1:30 p.m. It was 53 degrees and raining. We arrived at Clear Creek State Park at 1:55 p.m. It had stopped raining and was partly cloudy & windy.
It’s a beautiful place with big trees lining the campground roads. There are lots of cabins. Families with children appeared to be occupying most of the cabins. A separate section is for tent & trailer/RV campers without pets. Then upon crossing a small bridge with a sign that warns of flooding from the stream, we entered the smaller, pet-friendly camping area. There is a row of campsites along the Clarion River. We had reserved site #31 which was only available for two nights.
We went to our campsite and dropped off the Honda tow car, taking the RV to find fresh water at several water spigots in the campground. It took us a little time to find a place to get water; not all spigots were operational. And of course, when we did find a working spigot, the pressure was very low. It took awhile to get a small amount of water, then it stopped working. We will be preserving that water for the two nights we’ll be here!
We drove back to our campsite. It was a great, scenic campsite facing the River. On one side the site next to us was not occupied. We were at the end of the row, so on the other side, it was just a grassy field. Not too shabby! We set up camp and relaxed. The girls were soon fast asleep on the dashboard. The campsite has 50-amp electric hook-ups; they will be happy to get their heated pads back again (especially since the temperatures have dropped so much with this cold spell). Having this wind blowing makes it seem even colder.
