RAIN, OR LACK THEREOF.
Day 41 – It was 72 degrees this morning, no wind & VERY humid. It is supposed to rain today and that should break this humidity. We took a walk around the campground soon after we got up, hoping to beat the heat as it’s supposed to get to near 90 degrees again. Everything looks lovely, well maintained, and quiet. There are lots of Airstream trailers here, cream of the crop. From the bench overlooking the Lake, we saw the ferries traveling between VT and NY.

As the temperatures rose and the weather forecast kept changing showing less & less likelihood of rain, we decided to take a drive to utilize the car’s air conditioning. We took many side roads while traveling south and north through the different islands. Our main objective was to search for the best boat launches for future kayak paddles, followed by a drive-through of two State Parks, checking out campsites. We also drove over to the Vermont mainland to the city of Milton, the closest laundromat to our campground. We wanted to check out the facilities in advance of having to do massive amounts of laundry tomorrow.
In Milton, we found the laundromat was large, modern, and clean. After Milton, back on the Island route, we checked out restaurants for possibly celebrating our 41st anniversary Thursday night, deciding to go back to our favorite place from our visit here in 2017, the Blue Paddle Bistro in South Hero. Continuing onward, we found several good boat launches, one north of Grand Isle for paddling on Lake Champlain in calmer waters in a cove off of Eastern Shore Road, and two south of South Hero off of Route 2, one across from Sand Bar State Park at Sand Bar Wildlife Management Area near the marsh and the Osprey nests, and one at the Lamoille River access point off of Bear Trap/Cub Road. We hope to try all three before we leave. The North Hero State Park campground was closed. The Grand Isle State Park campground was open and the rangers were kind enough to let us drive through with a campground map to check out the campsites. We marked our favorites. (We like Champlain Adult Campground where we are staying now, and we really appreciate having air conditioning in this hot weather, but we wanted an alternative choice in case we wanted more privacy and more trees and the weather was not so hot that it required electricity for the A/C. Then our choice would be Grand Isle State Park. Nice to have alternatives! For the campground map, click here.)
There were many bicyclists out on the roads, and plenty of people were visiting the beach at Sand Bar State Park. Driving by a farm field, we saw two large birds in the field – Osprey. We pulled over to the side of the road trying not to disturb them.

We got the forecasted rain – all three-minutes worth. It did not cool it down in the least. The high today was 86 very humid degrees, and partly cloudy. The air conditioning stayed on in the RV for another evening.
Really??? 41 years!! Amazing. Hope you have a yummy dinner over shared memories.
