KAYAKING.

Day 25 – Another gorgeous day. Most of the campers here left this morning. SO glad we’re retired! We do remember the days of having to pack up & head home for work the next day. And when the weather is as perfect as it was today, you really don’t want to leave. We hung out until 10:45 a.m., then headed to Echo Lake. Only a couple of people were out, fishing. We covered ourselves with bug spray and were in the water by 11 a.m.

It was a great paddle. Bugs were not a problem. Although they were flying around, they didn’t bother us. Sunny and 70 degrees, it was a perfect day for a kayaking trip. The water was cold but calm, and the wind was slight. Because it’s not quite summer here yet, the lily pads weren’t choking the lake and were just starting to surface. Birds flitted about: Red-Winged Blackbirds, Grackle, misc. Warblers, Robins, Chickadees, Finches, and Woodpeckers. Dragonflies in neon colors hitched rides on our kayaks. Canada Geese floated by, including a family of three yellow gosling. Mallard Duck couples, grouped male & female, relaxed on a boat dock, then flew ahead of us when they saw the kayaks approach. There were lake houses, some with docks, and occasionally someone was sitting outside reading on their deck or looking over the Lake in their Adirondack chairs. The word for this entire area is Bucolic, from the farms to the lakefront. Click any picture below to see a slideshow.

We returned to the RV for a late lunch sandwich, took our showers to wash off the bug spray, and headed out to the screened tent. There are very few campers here now, no one that we can see from our campsite, and it’s quite quiet. We read our books, then made Rosemary Bourbon Drinks with a recipe from the Hudson Tuttletown Distillery. Anyone interested, let us know & we will send you the recipe. Back out at the tent we toasted to a great visit to Aroostook State Park. Tomorrow morning we leave for a two-night stopover at Lily Bay State Park. It’s supposed to rain for a couple of days, so we will be doing things to catch up while at the Park, then moving on.
