NEVER A DULL MOMENT IF YOU ARE A CAT.
Day 34 – What a difference a day makes, again. Dense fog this morning, lasted all day, not a bit of sun. 57 degrees all day. Yawn. We caught up with some more paperwork, took care of some more business, read our books, and again, nothing much happening. As always, the lobster boats go out & come back later with the day’s haul. Tomorrow is another day though; maybe if the weather is nice, we’ll kayak out in the Harbor.
The cats have been busy the last few days staring at a small heater grate on the RV kitchen floor. Just sitting there on & off, usually one right at the grate & the others spread out, watching. (At home in NY, this usually means that there’s a mouse or a large bug or something equally exciting, trapped, and the girls are waiting for their chance to pounce. Nothing better than a LIVE toy.) We kept checking out the grate, looking down it with flashlights, never seeing anything. The girls kept changing the guard, rotating the up-close watcher; it was a highly-coordinated team effort. Nothing would come of it, and we, with our much poorer hearing capabilities, never heard the slightest little noise or saw anything out of line. The last thing we want in the RV is mice. Bugs? We have the excellent Bug Zapper to take care of them. Below is a picture taken night before last of team backup as they lined up to support Pixie when the big moment occurred.

We never really expected anything to come of this tonight when they resumed their positions – it’d been days of this behavior. We decided finally, if there was something in there, we’d try to flush it out. Rob removed the grate. The girls said, thanks Pop, and continued their vigil. Eventually I got the flashlight and shined it down the opening for awhile. Sure enough, and much to my (and Pixie’s) surprise, a little mouse head peered out into the light, but seeing the crowd, promptly ducked back into the hole. It might be an exciting night around here. Oh goody.
So jealous!! I LOVE kayaking. Take pictures!!
