ONWARD TO BELFAST.
Day 5 – It rained most of the night. At 7 a.m. it was 66 degrees, cloudy & humid. It’s a travel day, but we don’t have far to go, from Freeport to Belfast. Check-in at our next campground isn’t until after 1 p.m., so we have plenty of time to relax & hang around here. The cows were put out to pasture early this morning, and we’re watching them from the front windshield; they’re a bit frisky. The cats are not impressed.

Since we have the time, we’re going to take Route 1 from this campground to the next one. Normally, we’d travel this section on more inner highways to avoid the crowds, but due to COVID, there haven’t been any crowds (even though this is a usually very busy time of year in Maine). New-home-wise, we’d cancelled an appointment with Rockport Post & Beam, a company we were going to stop at on the way to Belfast. We haven’t completely given up on timberframe/post & beam construction; we loved Habitat Post & Beam and will go with them if it turns out we can afford it. Also, after talking to modular home manufacturers, we’ve taken them off our list of possibilities because their delivery trucks cannot back into our driveway (which is not very wide & is lined with large, old spruce trees that we don’t want damaged).
We departed Wolfe’s Neck Oceanfront Camping at 11:15 a.m. after dumping tanks. We arrived at The Moorings Oceanfront RV Resort at 1:45 p.m. It was 74 degrees, cloudy & humid. Face-to-face check-in again was limited and we were quickly directed to Site #37. The camp host thoroughly sprayed the picnic table with disinfectant. Traffic was light and the crowds were small, even in Rockland & Camden. A normally very busy gas station was virtually empty when we stopped to put gas in the RV. The line-up at lunch time at Red’s Eats (famous for lobster rolls) is normally blocks long; I took a picture – not very many people. We have seen the effects of COVID everywhere we’ve gone, with stores & restaurants closed and summertime crowds almost non-existent. Sad!

Back in Belfast, ME!
First we had lunch, before unpacking at the campsite – leftovers from last night’s feast – then we set up camp. We’re finding that it’s very comfortable and easy now when we do this trip to our land, taking our time & not trying to do it all in one day. It helps to be familiar with the campgrounds and the cities they are in. It makes it feel like returning home each time. Later in the afternoon we sat outside and read, then picked up pizza to go from our favorite restaurant in town, Meanwhile in Belfast, only a ten-minute drive from the campground. But we did miss their incredible speciality cocktails that are so good when eating in-house.
The campground is full. It’s been fairly quiet – so far. It rained a little in the early evening. The girls are doing well, so are we.
