MAINE.

Tues., 11/5, Day 193:  HAPPY BIRTHDAY, TED C.  SEE YOU & CAROL SOON & WE’LL TOAST TO YOU THEN!  The weather was bad today with the winds & rain. We didn’t go out but got things done indoors. Making plans to leave soon – it looks from the weather forecasts that snow & very cold temperatures will arrive next week. Rob looked into airline tickets for California so he can see his mom. And since he was feeling better, he changed the oil & filter for the RV and fixed the macerator pump connections due to overheating. I worked on getting the budget & expenditures ready for spreadsheet entry. We need to get a handle on our Canadian expenses after dealing with the monetary conversions, to see if a trip south might be feasible this winter. Meanwhile, it was election day! Did you vote?

Wed., 11/6, Day 194:  It was 39 degrees this morning, sunny with some wind. Finally, no rain. Two representatives from LUPC came by at 10:30 a.m. to see what we were proposing for a stairway & platform from the cliff to the water. Because of the fractured rock of the cliff, they will be getting back to us after consulting with the LUPC island expert to see if she had seen any similar situations. We went into Lubec & ran some errands in preparation for leaving soon:  dumping the recycled trash, stopping mail delivery, buying some oil for the generator & getting rid of used motor oil, picking up a few grocery items, and stocking up on local lobster & crab. After checking with his family, Rob finalized his CA arrangements & we began getting ready for departure, including the packing of the car with the chipper/shredder & cleaning and packing up the tools used on the land. We made Crab Imperial over Angel Hair Pasta for several nights’ dinners (thank you once again, Diane, for the recipe for Mrs. Griffin’s amazing local Crab!).

Thurs., 11/7, Day 195:  The low last night was 32 degrees. Today was cloudy, rainy, windy & in the low to mid 50’s. We went into Lubec to the hardware store (one last time this year) & we stopped at Sally Ann’s Cafe for one last amazing veggie fritatta, but they were closed. Oh well – guess it will be Subway for lunch while we’re out & about. We drove to Machias for our last set of errands; we are leaving our land tomorrow, working our way home. We went to the wonderful Machias Marketplace & Farmer’s Market and stocked up one last time. We went to the health store & picked up a couple of things, got gas, Rob got some beer & we headed back to the RV. We finished getting ready to leave. Tomorrow Rob will winterize our water supply & septic plumbing after we dump tanks & fill up with water. For dinner we finally were able to get some pizza from the much-recommended Morano’s Pizza – we’d tried to get there several times but it hadn’t worked out. And people were right; it was excellent, really good pizza. We can’t wait for more next year. One last picture of the land this year is below – Rob took it this morning when he was sitting out over the water with his coffee. We will miss it here.
