MAINE (trail pics)

Fri., 11/1, Day 189:  My goodness. It is November already!  The recent days, beginning with today, have been somewhat a blur for me. I came down with a cold, not a big deal, but once these things go into my head, I don’t know what’s going on. The lack of energy dropped my activity level from quite low to zero. It was rainy & quite windy all day; a couple of times the power flickered on & off but luckily it did not stay off. The lows & highs were in the mid-40’s to mid-50’s.

Sat., 11/2, Day 190:  Rob was up early; it was 31 degrees out, still some wind but no rain. The contractor came by at 8 a.m. to climb down the cliff with Rob & look at our proposed project of building a stairway & platform from the cliff to the water. He said it looked like it would be a challenging job because the rock is really fractured & it would be difficult to attach stairs or a platform to it. He’s going to think about possible ways it could be done. Meanwhile, Rob had contacted a company that makes aluminum stairs that could be hinged up. They needed some measurements from us before they could proceed with a quote. The ladder we’d bought in Machias on Thursday turned out to be too short, so Rob went back into town and traded it in for a 20′ ladder. Then he was able to get down to the water level & get those measurements back to the company. I slept most of today. I pretty-much had lost my voice completely – a blessing for Rob, LOL. We’d planned on going to a recommended pizza place in Lubec, had been looking forward to it actually, so you know I didn’t feel good if I didn’t even want pizza! The wind diminished & it turned out to be sunny in the afternoon with a high of 44 degrees.

Sun., 11/3, Day 191:  HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU, VIRGINIA!!  WE HOPE YOU HAD A WONDERFUL DAY. Daylight Savings Time last night, gave us an extra hour, which I used for sleeping. It was 37 degrees this morning & sunny with no wind. Rob did some final work on the trail, got out the trusty chipper/shredder & created wood chips from some downed trees & branches, and covered the newly filled in areas on the trails. Before & after pictures follow. Basically it was an extension to the trail he completed last year, which would make it possible for us to access the water from the cliff. Now it’s ready for the stair & platform work we hope to get done next year. As the day wore on, I felt better; the worst was over with. Good enough actually, to consider a trip into Lubec for pizza for dinner. When I called to order the pizza, we found they were closed on Sunday. Now we really have cravings! The high today was 46 degrees. At bedtime, Rob said his throat was getting scratchy. Uh oh, now it’s his turn.

Mon., 11/4, Day 192:  I am not feeling 100% but almost there; Rob feels lousy. Bummers.  I guess when you are living in such a close proximity you cannot help but spread germs to each other! It was 32 degrees this morning, sunny with little wind until later when it increased again. The high today was 48 degrees. After receiving the measurements that Rob had sent to the company, they responded that they were unable to do what we wanted. Before working further on the plans, we still have the meeting with LUPC, which was postponed until Wednesday due to the weather forecast for tomorrow. They have the final word anyway, so we’ll wait & see what they say. Rob is currently kicked back in the recliner, covered with warm kitties. He’ll be okay. Grin.
