NEWFOUNDLAND – WHALE & BALD EAGLE SIGHTINGS, OUTRAGEOUS SCENERY, A WARM SUNNY DAY, PARTRIDGEBERRY DRINKS & A GOURMET MEAL.
Day 147 – Today was a good day. Perfect weather. A great boat tour. A wonderful meal. What more could you want? Warmer this morning at 49 degrees at 7:30 a.m. And sunny with light wind. This is our third day in a row with pretty good weather after four solid days of rain & winds. The weather forecast is for at least four more days of solid rain beginning Monday.
NEWFOUNDLAND – GROS MORNE NATIONAL PARK, NORTH.
Day 146 – Brrrr…..it was 38 degrees this morning and cloudy when we got up. The sun came out late morning, so we had an early lunch and left to explore, driving north on Route 430. We drove through small towns like Sally’s Cove & St. Pauls, traveling beyond the northern edge of Gros Morne National Park. Each town was charming. And we stopped at several interpretation points at various locations in this northern part of the National Park.

NEWFOUNDLAND – CORNER BROOK 1.
Day 145 – Today was a long day. We left at 8 a.m. for the city of Corner Brook & our 9:45 appointment at Fairway Honda. We got there at 9:30, happy to be early, and hoping it wouldn’t be an all-day car appointment. That happened to us last year in NY. We checked in and were told that since this was a U.S. vehicle, before working on it, they would have to call to check on whether there were any outstanding recall notices on our car. We were shown to the customer waiting area where two other customers were also waiting.
NEWFOUNDLAND – A RELAXING DAY INDOORS, ALMOST.
Day 144 – It was 43 degrees this morning when we got up, 10 degrees colder than yesterday at this time. It rained all night and had stopped raining by 8 a.m., only to start up again with some wind later in the morning. But being nestled in these trees keeps the wind noise & movement to a minumum. It just wasn’t a good day to go outside because it was so wet.
NEWFOUNDLAND – GETTING SETTLED IN.
Day 143 – We got up at 7:30 a.m. There was some fog but virtually no wind, 53 degrees & it had not started raining again – completely different than the continual rain we were expecting. We felt we’d made the right decision to drive this far south into the Park to camp, because we can see it all from here on the good-weather days.
NEWFOUNDLAND – HELLO AGAIN, GROS MORNE NATIONAL PARK.
Day 142 – None of us slept well last night with the RV rocking from the howling winds. We got up to dense fog & rain, lower winds (in the teens) and 50 degrees. We looked at the weather forecast in this area for the next several days: continual rain, wind in the teens and low 20’s. It was worse towards the north & somewhat better towards the south. We decided to pack up and leave.

NEWFOUNDLAND – HUNKERED DOWN AGAIN.
Day 141 – It was REALLY windy last night. The RV was rocking a bit. There were no trees around us to offer us any protection. This morning the waves were breaking roughly, and out to sea, there were white-caps as far as we could see in the distance. It was 46 degrees when we got up, cloudy & very windy. The wind increased during the morning, and we brought in two of the slides where the wind was whipping the awning over the slides back & forth – very noisy & scaring the cats. The girls were fine when we made the noise go away, grin. We were their heroes.
LABRADOR – LABRADOR TO NEWFOUNDLAND.
Day 140 – Is it wise to take a ferry trip across the Strait of Belle Isle on Friday the 13th? From what we’ve read, fishermen are very superstitious, and they don’t like to go out on Friday the 13th. As it turned out, we were wise to take the ferry from Labrador to Newfoundland today. (We found this out on Saturday when the ferry crossings were cancelled due to high winds in the Strait. The ferry remained in Newfoundland & didn’t cross. We would’ve had to wait several more days to leave due to the back-up caused by the cancellation.)

LABRADOR – LAZY LAST DAY IN LABRADOR.
Day 139 – The weather has changed yet again. Rain last night & this morning; it was 47 degrees when we got up. It is very cloudy with no wind; the bugs did not magically leave. We are taking it easy today, nursing our aching knees & backs. At some point we’ll need to go out & get propane for the RV. Tomorrow we will leave to go back to Newfoundland. We hope the weather will be nice for the ferry ride. When we came over here on August 31, there were high winds, rocking waves, and dense fog when we arrived. Little did we know we’d encounter an Atlantic hurricane!
LABRADOR – GOOD-BYE WIND; HELLO BLACK FLIES.
Day 138 – September 11 always brings back such memories – we’re sure it does for everyone else, too. It was beautiful out this morning when we got up – sunny, few clouds, no wind, and 41 degrees. We left a little before 11 a.m. for a drive south to check out Quebec, at least until the road ended. We’d planned to get more pictures of the excellent scenery & take a few back roads since we were in the Honda rather than the RV.
