NEWFOUNDLAND – CORNER BROOK 2.

Day 150 – We were able to get up early without it killing us, LOL. But forking out over a thousand dollars today on the Honda work almost did kill us. Nevertheless, it feels good to have the car working great again!

It was a rainy, windy day. We arrived at the Honda dealership in Corner Brook at 7:30 a.m. We departed finally at 1:50 p.m. By that time we were starving, so we drove to the closest Subway & got lunch. One thing we like at Corner Brook is that even though it’s a big city & it’s spread out, the city was designed with most of the shopping stores in one area. You don’t have to run all over the city to take care of errands; everything is in one place. Another thing about Corner Brook – it’s in a really beautiful setting – it’s not all concrete & buildings. There are plenty of greenery, hills, & lakes.

We got back to the RV at 4:20 p.m. after first stopping at the Post Office in Rocky Harbour to see if our mail had come in yet. It had, so we spent awhile in the evening dealing with that, paying bills & taking care of business. The girls were glad to see us; we’d been gone all day.

Berry Hill Campground, Gros Morne National Park:  5 km north of Rocky Harbour on Route 430, follow the signs, situated near the top of the hill a good distance from Route 430 – no traffic noise;  for emergencies call 1-877-852-3100; for reservations call 1-877-737-3783 or go to www.reservations.parkscanada.gc.ca;  for Gros Morne National Park info call (709) 458-2417 or go to www.pc.gc.ca/grosmorne or e-mail grosmorne.info@pc.gc.ca.  Season opening & closing dates can change depending on weather conditions. There were 69 campsites & 6 cabins. 25 campsites had electric & water hook-ups; the others had no hook-ups. Potable water was available at spigots throughout the campground; there was a dump station. The cabins were in a separate area from the campsites as was the group camping area. There were showers, restrooms & laundry facilities. There were several hiking trails leading from the campground & a separate parking lot for visitors. The campground roads were paved. This was an excellent campground. Every campsite had privacy. We stayed 9 nights & were scheduled to be there for two weeks, but we changed our mind because we misjudged when the peak of fall colors would be. We were given a full refund for the nights we paid for & didn’t stay. The campground is perfectly located to explore much of the National Park, across the highway from the town of Rocky Harbour, and we would definitely stay here again. We had site #60 with water & electric hook-ups, a large & private campsite on the outer loop in the woods.
