LABRADOR – WINDY DAY AT THE RV.
Day 129 – We slept in this morning. The skies were partly cloudy and the wind was strong when we got up. The Ocean was dark & choppy. We saw large numbers of birds flying over the water, heading south. Migration has begun? We stayed inside except for a 30-minute attempt to sit in the screened tent. And we made a brief trip to the Wi-Fi just-warm spot, to check for emergencies, to check the weather forecast, and to see if we missed an incredible performance from the Aurora Borealis last night. (We didn’t.)
Rob checked with the ranger regarding the status of campsite #19. The new campers were still scheduled to come in tomorrow; they had not cancelled. But the ranger suggested that we not pack up & move. He said he would talk to them & see if they had their heart’s set on this particular campsite for one night, or if they’d just picked it online & were just using it as a quick overnight stopover. If they agree to it, he will put them into a different site of their choice and we can stay where we are indefinitely. Site #19 has no reservations for the remainder of the season. This campground, and many others, close September 16.
The weather forecast is for rain tonight & tomorrow. The winds will stay high, decreasing finally on Tuesday night. Wednesday should be beautiful for some exploring. Then another, bigger storm with higher winds is scheduled to come thru on Thursday. This is the storm we were watching, trying to avoid being in open campsites.
We made a loaf of bread and cooked up a big batch of Greek Pasta Sauce, enough to last for days. We also made a batch of Partridgeberry syrup for the freezer. Of course, we had to sample it by adding vodka and ice to it. At sunset it is very cloudy and very windy. The high today, according to the Honda when we drove it to the comfort station, was 61 degrees. The low tonight will be in the 50’s. Not too cold at least.
