NEWFOUNDLAND – SITTING AROUND LA SCIE AT THE CAMPGROUND.
Day 108 – There’s something about the Ocean. You get up in the morning to an ocean breeze, a little salt, moisture, and sea in the air. The air is cool, fresh, and clean. You look out the front window & stretch as you view the deep blue of the ocean below, and a feeling of calmness settles in around you. Uh huh. We aren’t going anywhere today.
Rob took a walk to the head of the trails – Capelin Cove Trail (L’Anse au Capelin) heads along the Harbour of Canillie Cove, the Beach Trail heads to the beach below, and the Lookout Trail goes up steps and gravel to the top of the headland. (One thing I should mention, EVERY town we’ve visited in NF, no matter the size of the village, had well-maintained hiking trails and picnic areas set aside for visitors & townfolk. Really nice! A hiker’s paradise here in NF.) This morning Rob saw fishing boats galore (La Scie has a large, active harbour), and a Bald Eagle harrassed by Ravens flew above him.
It was 62 degrees & windy when we got up this morning. The wind continued throughout the day & we had some trouble with signals, so the blog & e-mail will be put off another day. We were sitting in the screened tent after lunch when one of the rowdy bunch screamed “Whale”!!! There was a Humpback Whale in the harbor just below us. By the time Rob got out there with the camera, he had just missed the breach of the whale and could only get what was left of the breach, but the Humpback continued to cruise the harbor below us. I had gone from the tent to the RV to get my cane, but watched from there. We spent most of the day in the screened tent reading, napping, etc. It was pleasant today but the wind gusts were high at times. The wind, however, keeps the bugs away so we welcome it. There was a nice sunset. We made Shrimp Tacos and they turned out really well. 70 degrees today, even with the wind it was much more pleasant.
