NEWFOUNDLAND – HOLYROOD TO ADMIRALS BEACH.

Day 60 – This was our last day here to cover the areas within the lower Avalon Peninsula we hadn’t covered in the past few days. It was 44 degrees and sunny at 7 a.m.  Looked like a good day weather-wise. We spent some time with the girls then left at 11 a.m., heading south to Route 90 off the Trans-Canada Highway.

NEWFOUNDLAND – WINDY & RAINY.

Day 58 – Today was a stay-at-home day with the girls. The weather was lousy and the winds were scary. We did lots of cooking, making a large batch of Mushroom Stroganoff over Wide Egg Noodles and Rob’s fabulous Garlic Bread. That will feed us for days. The low was 45 degrees this morning, it rained all day, and the winds were sustained in the 20-to-30 MPH range. Hopefully tomorrow will be nice again so we can finish exploring this peninsula before we move on.

NEWFOUNDLAND – GRATES COVE.

Day 57 – It was 48 degrees & cloudy at 7 a.m. this morning. We hung around doing chores and visiting with the kitties so they wouldn’t be pouty any more. We boiled up a huge pot of water (drinking water has to be boiled before using in lots of places we’ve stayed), and we made a fresh loaf of bread.  We left at 11 a.m. to scout for future campgrounds. A major Canadian holiday is coming next weekend, Canada Day, and we’ve heard campgrounds will be full. We need to find some place to stay and get our reservation in.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MARK T.!  WE DEDICATE THIS DAY TO YOU.

NEWFOUNDLAND – TWO BOAT TOURS.

Day 55 – We had an incredible day today. We had reserved two boat tours (a package deal of 20% off). We had no idea what kind of weather we’d have back when we reserved them, but we were keeping our fingers crossed. This turned out to be the nicest day weather-wise that we’ve had since we arrived in Newfoundland. The weather could not have been better!

NEWFOUNDLAND – GOOD DAY SUNSHINE! MORE OF THE IRISH LOOP DRIVE.

Day 53 – The sun was shining & it was not foggy this morning! Rob took a hike to the La Manche village (or what is left of it). He didn’t know how long the hike was when we left, but when he dragged himself back in the door over an hour later, it had turned out to be about five miles up and down and around the switchbacks on a fire access road, then down a steep hill to the Ocean and the remnants of the small fishing village that was destroyed by a huge wave in 1966. This hike included portions of the Newfoundland East Coast Trail, a long hiking trail that extends up & down the east coast.
