CATS, DOGS, AND BOURBON.

Day 79 – 30 degrees this morning & the wind made it feel like 22 degrees (according to the weather forecast), and sunny. We brought our coats back out for our excursions today. Brrrr! We met Pam in Indiana at the place she was working today, and together with one of her dogs, Ginji, we went to have an early lunch and get some propane for the RV. Lunch was at a great place called, CoreLife Eateries. It was really good and just what we needed after the heavy Mexican meal last night! They had design-your-own salads, soups, protein bowls, and broths using organic, fresh, local foods. Awesome. Our stomachs were happy.

We drove back to pick up her car & we went back to her house in Louisville, KY.  We visited her dogs: Simone, Ginji, Diesel, and her new foster, Ernie, who is still just adjusting to his new temporary home. The four of them were pretty funny; Simone was jealous that Ginji got to go out with Pam this morning, so Simone got to go out with her this afternoon.

We went to a “Cat Cafe”, there are two of them in Louisville, and it’s an idea that’s catching on. It was a little storefront that served coffees, teas, sodas, baked goods, etc. and had a little area which sold caps, t-shirts, sweatshirts, mugs, and other things, all with their logo. But the main theme, “Cats”, was what was unique – within this space, and at the front window, was a glass room with a door, and inside were bean bags & low couches & rugs & toys & kittens & cats & people playing with them. The cats were looking for new homes & were from the Louisville SPCA, and proceeds from the sales of goods were to support the storefront, the SPCA, & their shared project to facilitate the adoption of these cats. To date, they had found homes for 775 cats & kittens.  Obviously, none of us needed another animal, but I got a cute hat.

Next on the agenda was a trip downtown to the Evan Williams Bourbon Distillery for a tour, KY history lesson, and a tasting session. Kentucky is known for its Bourbon, and there are many tastings & tours in Louisville. Rob was curious as to how KY’s Bourbon would taste compared to the Distillery we have near where we live, Tuttletown Distillery in Gardiner, NY, which makes the popular “Baby Bourbon” that they sell. We had fun – we learned about the early days in KY and the history of bourbon-making in the area. We saw how it’s made & toured, then tasted the product. The really, really tasty Bourbon was $130 per bottle. Yes, it was that good. We walked away with some Bourbon Balls (chocolate bourbon candy), a jar of bourbon-garlic roasting sauce (for salmon), and a cheaper bottle of bourbon, the middle grade one we tasted.

Then we went to Bonefish Grill. We had a 50% off coupon and we were there for Happy Hour so it was a no-brainer. We had a great time & enjoyed spending the day with Pam, Ginji, and Simone. Pam works tomorrow, so Rob & I will do some stuff around the RV, visit with the kitties, and go to the used bookstore before meeting up with her in the later afternoon.

The high today was only 42 degrees; it was sunny, cold, and windy. When we got back to the RV after being gone most of the day, Rob opened the door to find Gracie there, looking out, checking to see who was coming.

What took you so long?? Gracie
