Day 226 – We got up to another warm day. Went to the Bakery and got two loaves of the freshly-baked Crunch Bread. They had just pulled out from the oven a piping-hot batch of melt-in-your-mouth Pecan Rolls. We HAD to get one of those. O M G !!! So yummy. Then we went to the General Store and got several more knives. (Last time we were here we bought a fantastic knife for chopping; it had been such a great knife that we knew we had to get others if we ever came back. AND they’re quite reasonably priced!) We also had time before campground check-out to drive to Iowa City to a health store to pick up some protein powder for Rob’s breakfast shakes. Back to the RV, we packed up and much to the cat’s surprise because they thought we were settling in at Amana, we departed for Oskaloosa.

Amana Colonies Campground, https://36yrdream.com/2017/09/19/monday-september-18-2017/. We stayed here previously in September 2017, so see link for that review. The only differences would be the site # (P3) and the time of year made it not at all crowded this time. We would definitely stay here again when it wasn’t crowded. The campground location is very convenient to I-80 and also to a great area for exploring both the Amana Colonies and the Parks nearby.

We left Amana at noon, 68 degrees, partly sunny. After a stop at the rest stop for lunch & a bumpy road test for Rob’s App, we arrived at Kelderman Manufacturing in Oskaloosa, IA at 1:50 p.m. It was 75 degrees with a light wind and partly cloudy. We were directed to a trailer pad with full hook-ups on one side of the parking lot. We unpacked, opened all the windows, and settled in.

The girls were glad to be here at first. Then the growling and howling began. What on earth? A large, beautiful dog – like an Alaskan Husky that might pull a dog sled – was on our door step saying, “HI!” and “Can you come out and play?”

The howling & growling was coming from the cats who were all puffed up twice their sizes and all worked up. The dog was cool, the friendly greeting dog, and not a mean bone in his body. We found out later that his name was Beau.

We could not calm the girls down. We finally had to close all the windows, pull all the shades and curtains, and on a warm, bright afternoon, we sat in hot, stuffy darkness. Then they calmed down, somewhat. They were still jumpy, trying to get under the shades and curtains we’d held down with blankets. We figured, out of sight, out of mind.

The high today was 81 degrees. The dog continued to hang around lying right by the RV, but changing positions from one side to the other now & then. We didn’t get much sleep, none of us. Pixie, in particular, continued to try to pry open the shades to check if the dog was still there. And of course, he was.
