THE FIRST DAY OF SPRING?
Day 191 – NY is getting another snowstorm along with NJ and DC. We’re even going to have snow here. 32 degrees & cloudy this morning, rained a lot last night, snow to start later today. That’s fine with us, but we bet some of you in NY are getting tired of it.
The paragraph above was written Tuesday morning, March 20, before leaving for Pam’s in KY. Now it is Wednesday morning, March 28. Where did that week go? Because so much time has passed, we don’t remember all the details but we will do our best to catch up.
We’d been having some problems with the heater in the RV – what is it with us and furnaces?! The RV heater can be run on gas (propane) or electricity (heat pump). If a Park has electrical hook-ups, we use electric heat – it’s cheaper for us. But at about the low 40’s, the electrical heat quits and then we switch over to gas. (Or if we know it will be below 40 at night, we turn off the electric heat before bed and turn on the gas heat.) So, for a couple of nights, we woke up with it being very cold in the RV – the gas heat did not cycle on at the temperature we’d set the thermostat. We’d been turning the control box off and on again, things like that to make it work, and sometimes the heat would come back on, sometimes it wouldn’t. Mr. Fix It had to get out his hat again and begin the troubleshooting process. He spent the morning taking things apart and doing research on the computer. Then we headed south for Pam’s house. She had to work in the morning, so we didn’t get together until the afternoon.
We visited with the dogs, then left to run some errands, taking one of the dogs, Simone, with us. We went to Costco, got gas, went to a large sporting goods store (we were looking for a particular kind of screened tent), and went to an art gallery where some of Pam’s paintings were on display. Simone was funny. She was named after Nina Simone, and we learned why that connection was made. She’d been fairly quiet, loving to ride in the car. But when we’d come back to the car after being in a store, she’d be up on her back legs bellowing a song about how mistreated she was. Momma, oh Momma, where have you been. How could you leave me for so long again. Etc. Not barking, but kind of a doggie talk meshed together with tunes of mixed moans & mild howls. A real crack up.
It had been raining and it was cold out. It started getting a little slushy. Rain turning to ice. We went to Bonefish Grill for dinner. We have one near where we live in NY and like it a lot; Pam had never been there. Happy Hour drinks to start and OF COURSE, Bang Bang Shrimp. Pam was hooked right there. She had the Bang Bang Tacos, Rob had Shrimp Pad Thai, and I had the Saucy Shrimp Appetizer & the small Caesar Salad. We watched thru the window as the ice turned to snow, the big-wet-snowflakes kind of snowfall. Gorgeous.
We dropped Pam & Simone off at her house, then headed back to Indiana and the campground which had inches of snow already in place. Our first real snowfall in the RV. Finally it felt like winter at home.
