Day 189 – We wanted to get a fairly early start today because we’d be crossing into Eastern Standard Time and losing an hour. 35 degrees at 8 a.m., very cloudy. We departed Harmonie State Park at 10:10 a.m. after dumping & filling with water. The girls were like, what the heck? We just got here!

157 miles

Harmonie State Park, 3451 Harmonie State Park Road, New Harmony, IN 47631, (812) 682-4821, www.dnr.in.gov.  A very large State Park (3,465 acres) with more than 200 campsites, most with electric hook-ups – dump station & water spigots are available in the Park. (Dump stations had no water this early in the season.) There are numerous trails for hiking, horseback riding & biking, plus fishing & swimming. We picked site #118 and stayed for 1 night, $32.10 off-season. We would stay here again, especially this early in the year. It would probably be a zoo during peak season.

We arrived at Charlestown State Park near Charlestown, IN at 2:25 p.m., drove through the one open loop & picked site #33. This is a very large Park; we stayed here last year when we visited Pam (Vicki’s daughter) & the pups, who live in Louisville, KY. It’s about a 40-minute drive from her home to the campground. Charlestown State Park is away from the big city & there was no traffic noise. Because it’s off-season, the full hook-up loops were not open. We have electricity but no water & the dump station has no water. This could limit our stay; but we paid for six nights at the very low, off-season rate of $17.50 per night, plus taxes. There were only three other campers here when we arrived.

We unpacked & set up. The high today was 64 degrees and it was a sunny, nice day. We sat outside for a short period of time, then headed out to Louisville to visit Pam. Once again we were very impressed with Louisville; it’s a great City with lovely bridges crossing the Ohio River from Indiana to Kentucky. Not much traffic at all. We visited at Pam’s house, which we also love, and the dogs – Simone, Ginji, and Diesel. Diesel is new since last year, a permanent foster, & he’s a rowdy guy. The two girl dogs, and Pam, too, all looked great. We sat on the front porch for awhile, then went out to dinner at Impellizzeri’s, a fantastic place for pizza – we came here last year & immediately requested we come back again this year. Awesome. Back to Pam’s where we spent some time going through her new book on Obama, great pictures, and we adore him. Rob & I got back to the RV about 9 p.m., and fed the hungry girls. End of Week 27, Trip #3.
