HELLO SUNSHINE!

Day 55 – We got up around 7 a.m., foggy, 38 degrees. The fog rapidly burned off & there was bright sunlight, no clouds. We’ve entered the rainy season for coastal northern CA (November thru April), and we’ve heard that it can rain everyday. We’ll take the sun when we can get it, and do our exploring & most of the picture-taking then. Soon enough we’ll be south where they can’t get enough rain, if any!

We drove north to the closest city with a health store, Crescent City, where we’d been a few days ago. One of the popular campgrounds in Del Norte Redwoods State Park has been closed until further notice due to the number of indigent people staying there, the noise & troublesome behavior (as stated in a Crescent City newspaper). We won’ t be checking that one out this time around. There was a man sleeping on the sidewalk outside the health store. Sad.

We got a few items we needed, grocery-wise, and headed over to the park by the Harbor. We walked along the walk & bike trail, really nice park. Then we walked over to another part of the Harbor where we’d heard seals “barking”.

We had lunch at a good cafe near the marina, then headed back south, stopping at scenic vista points on the way back to the campground. It was a nice day & the sun was warming. We stopped for a hike at False Klamath Cove & drove out to the Klamath River overlook at Requa, which had a good view of the mouth of the Klamath as it reached the Ocean. We drove a little south of the campground & took the Coastal Drive which circles around the southern bank of the Klamath River at the northern end of Prairie Creek State Redwoods State Park, looking down at the River and the Ocean. The Coastal Drive included a preserved World War II radar installation disguised as a farmhouse. This installation was created to protect against potential during WW II.

When we got back to the RV, we were greeted by Pixie at the front window, and we took a picture of her from outside the RV. We sat outside in the sun for awhile, watching the owner go to the River to catch some fish – no luck there. The high today was 48 degrees, but it felt much warmer than that with the sunlight and no wind. Some dark clouds came in later.
