MISSION ACCOMPLISHED; FOUND THE CIDER.
Day 22 – Beginning of Week 4. Hmmm…it seems longer than that since we left home. We got up at 7 a.m., 48 degrees & partly cloudy. No bear sightings yet. There are some really big ferns here; it would be cool to see a bear come ambling out of the bushes. Probably freak out the kitties, though.
Today we needed to run some errands. First we stopped at the County Park to make sure we had a site reserved once we left here on Thursday because we’ll need to dump by then. We walked the small campground and decided on site #11, reserved it for 4 nights beginning Thursday night, and also checked out the boat launch area for when we’re there. We had needed to get another Honda key, but when Rob called the closest dealership this morning in Coos Bay (about an hour north of where we’re camping), they couldn’t fit us in until tomorrow morning. We bought a couple of car-related items in Bandon, stopped at the local health store, Mother’s, for some items we needed, & went to the local grocery store for the things they didn’t have at the health store. The people in Bandon are extremely nice, and everywhere we go people are smiling. Awfully happy here in Oregon! Isn’t pot legal here? LOL. (Or maybe it’s the cider?)
Speaking of which, I have been on a quest to find this incredible cider I had the other day when we went out to eat in Port Orford. It’s Bandon Rain Squall Cider, made here from locally-grown apples and cranberries, and it’s SO good. Not too sweet, a touch of cinnamon, and very tart. We checked at each store for the Cider but no one had it, not even in the hard cider sections. We stopped at a large liquor & smokes store and asked about it. It’s not sold in bottles or cans; it’s sold in Growlers. We bought a small one. Mission accomplished.
We had lunch at the small health store called “Mother’s Natural Foods”; it was excellent. We got the enchiladas, one green & one red, and the artichoke parmesan pita. We split them both. Very good – we’d go back & get the same thing again. When we got back to the State Park, we drove down to the beach to check it out & also went to the lighthouse, both in preparation for a bike ride tomorrow. Today it’s windy out & the high was only 54 degrees. Supposed to warm up for the rest of the week.
The wind increased. Happy hour had arrived, and we headed out to see if it was too cool to sit outside & enjoy some Bandon Rain Squall Cider. We’d been inside for a couple of hours, catching up on some paperwork, bill paying, blog writing, etc. Time for a break.
Back again, 54 and very windy, just a bit too cool to sit out comfortably. The Cider was good, inside or outside, and we have more for tomorrow. Cranberries are good for the bladder, right? We had an early dinner, sat around & read our books, asleep by 9:30.
